Blockade (board Game)
''Blockade'' (also known as ''Cul-de-sac'') is a strategy board game for two players with the motto "beat the barrier". It is played with barriers and 2 mobile playing pieces per player on a grid of 11x14 spaces. The object of the game is to maneuver one's pieces around barriers and into the opponent's starting spaces. The game is long out of production. History ''Blockade'' was created by Philip Slater in 1975. In the United States, it was published by Lakeside under the name ''Blockade''. In France, Germany, Sweden, and United Kingdom the game was published by Lazy Days under the name ''Cul-de-sac'' (French for "dead-end"). Lakeside went bankrupt in 1983 and ceased production. Deductive reasoning is the process of drawing valid inferences. An inference is valid if its conclusion follows logically from its premises, meaning that it is impossible for the premises to be true and the conclusion to be false. ''Quantum'' is an abstract strategy board game for two players, invented by Philip Slater and published by Lazy Days in 1975. It has similarities to chess and checkers as players move pieces around a gridded board, attempting to take enemy pieces while defending their own. Rules The game is played on a rectangular 12 by 8 board with an outer ring of coloured squares. For a shorter game, the ring of coloured squares can be ignored to create a 10 by 6 or an 8 by 8 board. There are three types of pieces: squares move only along horizontals and verticals, circles move only diagonally, and queens (shown by the plus symbol) can move in all eight directions. Instead of taking enemy pieces, a player builds up a vertical stack of tokens by moving their pieces onto enemy pieces. Game design A dark wooden plaque is divided into 11 x 11 squares by grooved lines. In total there are 2 pawns and 42 walls. Each player has a steel pawn and 21 steel walls. ''Pinko Pallino'' is designed exclusively for 2 players. Gameplay and Rules With players on opposite sides of the board, each player places a pawn on the middle square of the near side of the board. ''Quoridor'' is a two- or four-player intuitive strategy game designed by Mirko Marchesi and published by Gigamic Games. Quoridor received the '' Mensa Mind Game'' award in 1997 and the ''Game Of The Year'' in the United States, France, Canada and Belgium. Rules of the game Quoridor is played on a game board of 81 square spaces (9×9). Each player is represented by a pawn which begins at the center space of one edge of the board (in a two-player game, the pawns begin opposite each other).
