Blackall–Jericho Road
Blackall–Jericho Road is a continuous road route in the Blackall-Tambo and Barcaldine local government areas of Queensland, Australia. It is a state-controlled regional road (number 441), rated as a local road of regional significance (LRRS). Route description The road commences as Clematis Street at an intersection with the Landsborough Highway (known as Shamrock Street) in , in the Blackall-Tambo region. It runs north-east before turning east as Ivy Street, which becomes Blackall–Jericho Road as it leaves the town. It turns north-east and continues to the locality and regional boundary, where it enters the former locality of , now a part of the locality of , in the Barcaldine region. While passing through Blackall the road runs through the village of Yalleroi and passes the exit to Narbethong Road to the north-west. Landsborough Highway
Landsborough Highway is a highway in western Queensland, Australia, running in the northwest–southeast direction from Morven to Cloncurry. The Landsborough Highway runs through vast tracts of land that was once occupied by William Landsborough, an Australian explorer of the 19th century. It is also the central part of the tourist route known as the Matilda Way after the popular Australian song Waltzing Matilda, which extends from Bourke in central northern New South Wales to Karumba on the Gulf of Carpentaria. Capricorn Highway
The Capricorn Highway is located in Central Queensland, Australia, and links the city of Rockhampton with western Queensland. The highway is long, and joins the Landsborough Highway at Barcaldine. Formerly National Route 66, Queensland began to convert to the alphanumeric system much of Australia had adopted in the early-2000s and is now designated as A4. The highway runs parallel with the Tropic of Capricorn, hence its name. Other towns situated along the highway include (from east to west): Gracemere, Kabra, Stanwell, Westwood, Gogango, Duaringa, Dingo, Bluff, Blackwater, Comet, Emerald, Bogantungan, Alpha and Jericho. The Blackall-Tambo Region is a Local government in Australia, local government area in Central West Queensland, Australia. Thomas Mitchell (explorer)
Sir Thomas Livingstone Mitchell (15 June 1792 – 5 October 1855), often called Major Mitchell, was a Scottish Surveyor (surveying), surveyor and European land exploration of Australia, explorer of Southeastern Australia. He was born in Scotland and served in the British Army during the Peninsular War. In 1827 he took up an appointment as Assistant Surveyor General of New South Wales. The following year he became Surveyor General of New South Wales, Surveyor General and remained in this position until his death. Mitchell was knighted in 1839 for his contribution to the surveying of Australia. Early life Thomas Livingstone Mitchell was born at Grangemouth in Stirlingshire, Scotland on 15 June 1792. Augustus Gregory
Sir Augustus Charles Gregory (1 August 1819 – 25 June 1905) was an English-born Australian explorer and surveyor. Between 1846 and 1858 he undertook four major expeditions. He was the first Surveyor-General of Queensland. He was appointed a lifetime Member of the Queensland Legislative Council. Samuel Blackall
Samuel Wensley Blackall (1 May 1809 – 2 January 1871) was an Irish soldier and politician, who was the second Governor of Queensland from 1868 until he died in office in 1871. Early life Blackall was born in Dublin, Ireland into a prosperous Irish family and attended Trinity College, Dublin at the age of 15, but did not graduate. In 1827 he joined the 85th (Bucks Volunteers) Regiment of Foot, as an ensign and was appointed a lieutenant in 1832. He sold his commission in 1833 after five years service and joined the Royal Longford Militia, as a major. Public life Blackall entered Irish public life in 1833, becoming High Sheriff of Longford for 1833 and, several years later, High Sheriff of Tyrone, high sheriff of County Tyrone for 1862.
