Bhutan competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, from 26 July to 11 August 2024. It was the nation's eleventh consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics since its debut in 1984. The delegation consisted of three athletes competing in three sports. Bhutan did not win any medals during the Paris Olympics. Sangay Tenzin and Kinzang Lhamo served as the team's flagbearers in the 2024 opening ceremony, while Lhamo was the sole flagbearer in the closing ceremony. Lhamo received a standing ovation for her determination in finishing the women's marathon despite finishing in last place. Background The Bhutan Olympic Committee was created on 23 November 1983. The Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) was created on 23 November 1983 with the 4th Druk Gyalpo, King of Bhutan as its President, with its headquarters at Thimphu, Bhutan. Career He started archery in 2012 after responding to an advertisement for the national archery team. He was coached by the Bhutan Archery Federation (BAF) and went on to compete at over 20 international competitions. He achieved his personal best score of 664 at the Asian Archery Championship in Bangkok in November 2023. His performance in the final world qualifier in Antalya led to him being selected to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The men's individual archery event was one of five archery events at the 2024 Summer Olympics. It was held at Les Invalides. There were 64 competitors from 40 nations, with nations having either 1 or 3 archers. Qualification 64 archers qualify for the men's archery events. The 12 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) that qualify for the men's team event (including the host, France) enter the 3 team members in the individual event as well. Otherwise, NOCs may qualify a maximum of 1 archer in men's individual. There are quota spots available at various tournaments, including the World Championships, multiple continental events, and a final qualification tournament.
