Estádio Walmir Campelo Bezerra, usually known as Bezerrão, is a Brazilian football stadium, located at administrative region of Gama, in the Distrito Federal. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium has a capacity of 20,000 people. Bezerrão is owned by the Government of the Federal District and it is the stadium where Sociedade Esportiva do Gama sometimes plays its home matches. The stadium is named after Antônio Walmir Campelo Bezerra, who was the regional administrator of Gama during the stadium construction. History In 1977, construction work on Bezerrão was completed. The inaugural match was played on October 9 of that year, when Botafogo beat Gama 3–1. The first goal of the stadium was scored by Botafogo's Gil. The 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup was the 18th edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, the biennial international men's youth association football, football championship contested by the under-17 national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It was hosted by Brazil between 26 October and 17 November 2019. Originally, Peru was scheduled to host the tournament between 5 and 27 October 2019, however, it was announced in February 2019 that they would no longer host the tournament, following inspection of the facilities and concern over organizational challenges. A formal announcement on 15 March 2019 ratified the recommendation to move the tournament to Brazil. Gama () is an administrative region in the Federal District in Brazil. It is bordered by Recanto das Emas to the north, Riacho Fundo II and Park Way to the northeast, and Santa Maria to the east. History In August 1746 pioneer Antônio Bueno de Avezedo left Paracatu, Minas Gerais, leading a large group to the northwest.
