Barrington Head, Nova Scotia
Barrington Head is a locality in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in the Municipality of the District of Barrington of Shelburne County. Originally a community, it was amalgamated with the community of Barrington in 2006. It refers to a general geographic area consisting of the region to the east of the head of the Barrington River (which flows into Barrington Bay), Route 3, to approximately the Hibbard's Brook bridges, one near the Barrington Municipal Exhibition Grounds on Route 3, and one other being on Route 309, on the Villagedale Road. Barrington Head was once home to Swim's General Store, and contains the Kenney Shell Station, the United Church, Barrington Exhibition Grounds, 7E Volunteer Fire Department, and the Goodwill Club of Barrington. Forest Ridge Academy (elementary school) is in the area, as well as the Dept. of Highways building. Nova Scotia Trunk 3 is an east-west trunk highway in Nova Scotia. The route runs from Halifax to Yarmouth, along the South Shore. Trunk 3's status as an important regional highway link has been superseded by the parallel Highway 103. Route description The eastern terminus of Trunk 3 on provincial maps is at the Armdale Roundabout in Halifax. Travelling inbound from the traffic circle along Quinpool Road, Trunk 3 continues to be marked with "3 INBOUND" signs until just before Quinpool Road's intersection with Connaught Avenue. The sign "3 ENDS" marks the signed eastern terminus of the route. Traveling outbound from the traffic circle Trunk 3 formally proceeds west using the name St. Margaret's Bay Road and passes through Timberlea and Upper Tantallon. Barrington, Nova Scotia (community)
Barrington is an unincorporated Canadian rural community of about 4,000 people on the northeast corner of Barrington Bay in Shelburne County, Nova Scotia. Barrington is part of the much larger Municipality of the District of Barrington, also wholly within Shelburne County. History Barrington's inhabitants are mostly descendants of the first settlers from Chatham and Harwich on Cape Cod, Massachusetts who emigrated to the area during the 1760s. One such settler was Solomon Kendrick, father of John Kendrick, explorer and maritime fur trader. Solomon moved from Harwich, Cape Cod, to Barrington in the 1760s. There are several interesting historical sites in the second of the villages which have as part of their name Barrington. Actually Barrington Head is named only locally as such because of it being located at the head of Barrington Bay.
