Barrington is an unincorporated Canadian rural community of about 4,000 people on the northeast corner of Barrington Bay in Shelburne County, Nova Scotia. Barrington is part of the much larger Municipality of the District of Barrington, also wholly within Shelburne County. Harwich, Massachusetts
Harwich ( ) is a New England town on Cape Cod, in Barnstable County in the state of Massachusetts in the United States. At the 2020 census it had a population of 13,440. Harwich experiences a seasonal increase to roughly 37,000. The town is a popular vacation spot, located near the Cape Cod National Seashore. Harwich's beaches are on the Nantucket Sound side of Cape Cod. Harwich has three active harbors. Saquatucket, Wychmere and Allen Harbors are all in Harwich Port. Clyde River, Nova Scotia
Clyde River is a community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in the Shelburne municipal district of Shelburne County. It borrows its name from the Clyde River which flows through the community, which was in turn adopted from the famous Scottish river. The area was settled by New England Planters about 1667 and later by Loyalists after 1783. Lumbering and farming were the initial industries. Barrington Head, Nova Scotia
Barrington Head is a locality in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in the Municipality of the District of Barrington of Shelburne County. Originally a community, it was amalgamated with the community of Barrington in 2006. It refers to a general geographic area consisting of the region to the east of the head of the Barrington River (which flows into Barrington Bay), Route 3, to approximately the Hibbard's Brook bridges, one near the Barrington Municipal Exhibition Grounds on Route 3, and one other being on Route 309, on the Villagedale Road. Barrington Head was once home to Swim's General Store, and contains the Kenney Shell Station, the United Church, Barrington Exhibition Grounds, 7E Volunteer Fire Department, and the Goodwill Club of Barrington. Forest Ridge Academy (elementary school) is in the area, as well as the Dept. of Highways building. Hugh Hood
Hugh John Blagdon Hood, OC (b in Toronto, Ontario 30 April 1928 – d in Montreal, Quebec 1 August 2000) was a Canadian novelist, short story writer, essayist and university professor. Hood wrote 32 books: 17 novels including the 12-volume New Age novel sequence (influenced by Marcel Proust and Anthony Powell), several volumes of short fiction, and 5 of nonfiction. He taught English literature at the Université de Montréal. In the early 1970s he and fellow authors Clark Blaise, Raymond Fraser, John Metcalf and Ray Smith formed the well-known Montreal Story Tellers Fiction Performance Group, which popularized the public reading of fiction in Canada. In 1988, he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada. John Kendrick (American Sea Captain)
John Kendrick (1740–1794) was an American sea captain during the American Revolutionary War, and was involved in the exploration and maritime fur trading of the Pacific Northwest alongside his subordinate Robert Gray. He was the leader of the first US expedition to the Pacific Northwest. He is known for his role in the 1789 Nootka Crisis, having been present at Nootka Sound when the Spanish naval officer José Esteban Martínez seized several British ships belonging to a commercial enterprise owned by a partnership of companies under John Meares and Richard Cadman Etches. This incident nearly led to war between Britain and Spain and became the subject of lengthy investigations and diplomatic inquiries. Kendrick was the first American to try to open trade with Japan.
