BPMN
Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) is a graphical representation for specifying business processes in a business process model. Originally developed by the Business Process Management Initiative (BPMI), BPMN has been maintained by the Object Management Group (OMG) since the two organizations merged in 2005. Version 2.0 of BPMN was released in January 2011, at which point the name was amended to Business Process Model ''and'' Notation to reflect the introduction of execution semantics, which were introduced alongside the existing notational and diagramming elements. Though it is an OMG specification, BPMN is also ratified as ISO 19510. The latest version is BPMN 2.0.2, published in January 2014. XPDL
The XML Process Definition Language (XPDL) is a format standardized by the Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC) to interchange business process definitions between different workflow products, i.e. between different modeling tools and management suites. XPDL defines an XML schema for specifying the declarative part of workflow / business process. XPDL is designed to exchange the process definition, both the graphics and the semantics of a workflow business process. XPDL is currently the best file format for exchange of BPMN diagrams; it has been designed specifically to store all aspects of a BPMN diagram. XPDL contains elements to hold graphical information, such as the X and Y position of the nodes, as well as executable aspects which would be used to run a process. CMMN
Case Management Model and Notation (CMMN) is a graphical representation for graphically expressing a Case, as well as an interchange format for exchanging Case models among different tools. In this context: "A Case is a proceeding that involves actions taken regarding a subject in a particular situation to achieve a desired outcome" and it is derived from the concept of case management used e.g. in the legal and medical worlds. While BPMN deals with predictable processes, CMMN is more oriented to focus on supporting processes that are intrinsically unpredictable, not repeatable, weakly-structured, and knowledge-intensive. CMMN can often require ''ad-hoc'' actions. A consortium of 11 companies contributed to the development of CMMN, which is now being maintained by the Object Management Group. Swim Lane
A swimlane (as in swimlane diagram) is used in process flow diagrams, or flowcharts, that visually distinguishes job sharing and responsibilities for sub-processes of a business process. Swimlanes may be arranged either horizontally or vertically. Attributes The swimlane flowchart differs from other flowcharts in that processes and decisions are grouped visually by placing them in ''lanes''. Parallel lines divide the chart into lanes, with one lane for each person, group or sub process. Lanes are labelled to show how the chart is organized. In the accompanying example, the vertical direction represents the sequence of events in the overall process, while the horizontal divisions depict what sub-process is performing that step.
