Ayşe Gökkan
Ayşe Gökkan (born 1965 in Kulince, Sanliurfa) is a Kurdish journalist, feminist, spokeswoman of the Free Women Movement (TJA) and a former Mayor of Nusaybin. As a journalist, she has been active in news outlets such as Özgür Gündem or Azadiya Welat. Gökkan was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment on grounds that she was a leader and a member of a terror organization in October 2021. Early life and education She was born in the village Kulince in Suruç, Şanlıurfa Province. After having attended primary school in her village, she graduated from high school in Urfa. Later she studied journalism at the American University of Northern Cyprus from which she graduated in 1998. The Grand National Assembly of Turkey ( ), usually referred to simply as the GNAT or TBMM, also referred to as , in Turkish, is the Unicameralism, unicameral Turkey, Turkish legislature. The Democratic Society Congress (, ) is a pro-Kurdish NGO favouring the implementation of Democratic Confederalism in Turkish politics. Its foundation congress was held on 26–29 October 2007. Structure It has 2 co-chairs, a chairman and a chairwoman, a general assembly with 501 delegates, an executive council of 21 members and several committees. 40% of the delegates of the general assembly are represented by labour unions, civil society organizations and political parties, 40% are representatives from local assemblies. Kayapınar is municipality and district of Diyarbakır Province, Turkey. Its area is 480 km2, and its population is 419,513 (2022). It covers the northwestern part of the city of Diyarbakır and the adjacent countryside. The district Kayapınar was created in 2008 from part of the central district (''Merkez'') of Diyarbakır. In the local elections of 31 March 2019, Keziban Yılmaz was elected Mayor with 66.35% of the votes. Mardin Artuklu University (MAU) is a university located in Mardin, Turkey. It was established in 2007. Language programs In 2009, the university was allowed to open a Kurdish language department by the Higher Education Board. Before, the Kurdish language was banned for long periods of time in Turkey.
