Associação Guias De Portugal
The Associação Guias de Portugal (AGP; roughly ''Guide Association of Portugal'') is the national Guiding association of Portugal. Guiding in Portugal started in 1919 and became a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 1963. The girls-only organization has 3,291 members (as of 2003). Its headquarters are located in Lisbon. History The first Guide group in Portugal was formed in 1911 in Porto, being an overseas group of The Guide Association (UK). This group – and the British Guides on Madeira – supported the development of Portuguese Guide groups in 1919. In 1930, the AGP was formed; it was officially recognized by the government in 1934, but had to suspend all activities in 1938 due to political unrest. World Association Of Girl Guides And Girl Scouts
The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS ) is a global association that supports Girl Guides, female-oriented and female-only Guiding and Scouting organizations in 153 countries. It was established in the year 1928 in Parád, Hungary. The organization now has its headquarters located in London, United Kingdom. It is the counterpart of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). WAGGGS is organized into five regions and operates five international Guiding centers. It holds full member status in the European Youth Forum (YFJ), which operates within the Council of Europe and the European Union. Girl Guides (or Girl Scouts in the United States and some other countries) are organisations within the Scout Movement originally and largely still for girls and women only. Girlguiding is the operating name of The Guide Association in the United Kingdom, previously named The Girl Guides Association, which was formed in 1910. It is the original Girl Guides organisation in the world and, in 1928, became a founding member organisation of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). It is a registered charity and operates the largest girl-only youth organisation in the UK. Scout Method
The Scout method is the informal educational system used in the Scout Movement with some variations among different Scout organizations. Scout training is character development to help Scouts become independent and helpful, and thereby become "healthy, happy, helpful citizens". The Scout method uses appealing activities in the outdoors with a simplified social structure to generate challenges from which Scouts learn. Through the training, Scouts are taught independence, leadership, the ambition to learn by themselves and a moral code with positive goals. The Scout method works by following the natural impulses of the Scout and unconsciously because the Scout is not aware of the education. Activities and games provide a fun way to develop skills and, when conducted outdoors, provide contact with nature and the environment. The Federação Escotista de Portugal (also ''Federação Escutista de Portugal''; FEP, ''Scouting Federation of Portugal'') is the national Scouting federation of Portugal.
