Art Museum At SUNY Potsdam
The Art Museum at SUNY Potsdam is part of the State University of New York at Potsdam, located in the village of Potsdam in St. Lawrence County, New York. The permanent collection of the Art Museum at SUNY Potsdam consists of around 1,900 objects that range from post-war American and European art, contemporary art, ethnographic art, and early American and European art. The Japanese collection features a large number of Gutai group pieces that present a detailed outlook on Japanese abstract painting from the late 1950s to the early 1970s. The Italian collection contains a mix of mid-20th century painting, sculpture, and works on paper done by Italian artists from the postwar period, including works by Afro Basaldella, Giuseppe Capogrossi, Zuran Antoni Music, Arnoldo Pomodoro, Gio Pomodoro, Paolo Scheggi and Giulio Turcato. The was a Japanese avant-garde artist group founded in the Hanshin region by young artists under the leadership of the painter Jirō Yoshihara in Ashiya, Japan, in 1954. It operated until shortly after Yoshihara's death in 1972. Afro Libio Basaldella (March 4, 1912 – July 24, 1976) was one of the most important Italian painter in the post-World War II period. He began as a member of the Scuola Romana, and then embracing [informal] [abstraction], worked and had great international success together with Alberto Burri and Lucio Fontana. Giuseppe Capogrossi (7 March 1900 – 9 October 1972) was an Italian painter. Biography Capogrossi was born in Rome. After obtaining a degree in law in 1923–1924, he decided to study painting with Felice Carena at Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma. In 1927 Capogrossi embarked on a formative trip to Paris together with fellow artist and acquaintance Fausto Pirandello. In the 1930s Capogrossi participated to many group exhibitions in Rome, Venice and Milan and Paris, usually as associate to the so-called "Scuola romana" ("Roman school"). Giulio Turcato
Giulio Turcato (16 March 1912, Mantua – 22 January 1995, Rome) was an Italian artist, belonging to both figurative and abstract expressionist currents. Biography Giulio Turcato was born in Mantua. He attended the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia in the early 1930s before moving to Milan and finding work in the firm of the architect Giovanni Muzio in 1937. A chronic pulmonary illness forced him to frequent stays in sanatoriums. Having taken up painting, he found inspiration in the Cubist art of Pablo Picasso, eventually developing an abstraction with expressionist overtones. The Crane School of Music is located in Potsdam, New York, and is one of three schools which make up the State University of New York (SUNY) at Potsdam. Crane consists of approximately 630 undergraduate and 30 graduate students and a faculty of 70 teachers and professional staff in a college of 2500 students and 250 faculty.
