Antonio Valverde Y Cosío
Antonio Valverde y Cosío (1670–February 1737) was the architect behind the disastrous Villasur expedition wherein the famous Spanish colonial scout José Naranjo perished. He was a prominent entrepreneur and Spanish soldier who served as acting governor of Santa Fe de Nuevo México in 1716 and as interim governor of this territory from 1718 to 1721. His politics were based, in large part, on stopping the French invasion of New Mexico. Pedro Rodríguez Cubero (baptized July 29, 1656 – died 1704) was a Spanish admiral who served as the governor of New Mexico between 1697 and 1703. Biography Early years Pedro Rodríguez Cubero was born in Huéscar (Granada, Spain). He was baptized July 29, 1656 as the son of Antonio Rodríguez Cubero and María González Solá. On June 20, 1674, Cubero joined the Spanish Army at the infantry unit of the Armada de El Mar Oceano (Ocean Sea's Army), starting as a common soldier (i.e. a musketman). In a successful career, he was promoted to the rank of admiral. The same year he traveled to Sicily (at that time possessed by the Spanish) to quell an insurgency at Messina. The Tiwa, less commonly Tigua, are a group of related Tanoan Pueblo peoples in New Mexico that traditionally speak a Tiwa language (although some speakers have switched to Spanish and/or English), and are divided into the two Northern Tiwa groups, in Taos and Picuris, and the Southern Tiwa in Isleta and Sandia, around what is now Albuquerque, and in Ysleta del Sur near El Paso, Texas. Tewa People
The Tewa are a linguistic group of Pueblo Native Americans who speak the Tewa language and share the Pueblo culture. Their homelands are on or near the Rio Grande in New Mexico north of Santa Fe.
