André N. Skjelstad
André Nikolai Skjelstad (born 27 August 1965) is a Norwegian politician for the Liberal Party of Norway, Liberal Party. He was elected to the Stortinget, Norwegian Parliament from Nord-Trøndelag (Storting constituency), Nord-Trøndelag in 2005. Prior to this he worked as a farmer, and served as Deputy Mayor of Verran Municipality and as a regional council member for Nord-Trøndelag County Municipality. Skjelstad has argued for diversification and investment in the region, to prevent stagnation and reliance upon the oil industry. The Liberal Party (, , V; ) is a social liberal political party in Norway. It was founded in 1884 and is the oldest political party in Norway. Despite its native name, the Liberal Party is positioned in the centre on the political spectrum, and usually cooperates much more with the right wing parties. It is a liberal party which has over the time enacted reforms such as parliamentarism, freedom of religion, universal suffrage, and state schooling. For most of the late 19th and early 20th century, it was Norway's largest and dominant political party, but in the postwar era it lost most of its support and became a relatively small party. The party has nevertheless participated in several centrist and centre-right government coalitions in the postwar era. It currently holds eight seats in the Parliament, and was previously a part of Norway's government together with the Conservative Party and the Christian Democratic Party. The Storting ( ; ) is the supreme legislature of Norway, established in 1814 by the Constitution of Norway. It is located in Oslo. The unicameral parliament has 169 members and is elected every four years based on party-list proportional representation in nineteen multi-seat constituencies. Nord-Trøndelag (; ) is one of the 19 multi-member constituencies of the Storting, the national legislature of Norway. The constituency was established in 1921 following the introduction of proportional representation for elections to the Storting. Verran Municipality
Verran is a former municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1901 until its dissolution in 2020 when it was divided between Steinkjer Municipality and Indre Fosen Municipality. It was part of the Innherred region. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Malm. Other villages in Verran included Follafoss, Sela, Verrabotn, and Verrastranda. At the time of its dissolution in 2020, the municipality was the 185th largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway. Nord-Trøndelag County Municipality () was the regional governing administration of the old Nord-Trøndelag county in Norway. The county municipality was established in its current form on 1 January 1976 when the law was changed to allow elected county councils in Norway. The county municipality was dissolved on 1 January 2018, when Nord-Trøndelag was merged with the neighboring Sør-Trøndelag county, creating the new Trøndelag county which is led by the Trøndelag County Municipality.
