The American Expeditionary Force, Siberia (AEF in Siberia) was a formation of the United States Army involved in the Russian Civil War in Vladivostok, Russian Empire, Russia, after the October Revolution, from 1918 to 1920. The force was part of the larger Allied North Russia intervention. As a result of this expedition, early relations between the United States and the Soviet Union were poor. President of the United States, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson's claimed objectives for sending troops to Siberia were as much diplomatic as they were military. One major reason was to rescue the 40,000 men of the Czechoslovak Legion, who were being held up by Bolshevik forces as they attempted to make their way along the Trans-Siberian Railroad to Vladivostok, and it was hoped, eventually to the Western Front. The M1903 Springfield, officially the U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, M1903, is an American five-round magazine-fed, bolt-action service repeating rifle, used primarily during the first half of the 20th century. The M1903 was first used in combat during the Philippine-American War and was officially adopted by the United States as the standard infantry rifle on 19 June 1903. The Browning Automatic 5, most often Auto-5 or simply A-5, is a Recoil operation, recoil-operated semi-automatic shotgun designed by John Browning and manufactured by Fabrique Nationale de Herstal. The 8th Infantry Division, ("Pathfinder") was an infantry division of the United States Army during the 20th century. The division served in World War I, World War II, and Operation Desert Storm. Camp Fremont
Camp Fremont was a World War I-era military base located near Palo Alto, California. Construction started in July 1917 and the post closed in September, 1919. The post was named for John C. Frémont, a US Army officer and government official who was prominent in California during the 1850s. Creation of post Camp Fremont was constructed on vacant land in and around the area of Palo Alto and Menlo Park. Camp Fremont consisted of slightly more than and contained approximately 1,125 structures, mostly temporary buildings constructed of wood. During preparation for possible entry into World War I, the U.S. Army determined a need existed for a post on the west coast of the United States to train National Guard units for combat. The 62nd Infantry Regiment was a Regular Army infantry regiment in the United States Army. History World War I The 62nd Infantry Regiment was constituted in the Regular Army on 15 May 1917, and was organized on 1 June 1917 at the Presidio of San Francisco, California, from personnel of the 12th Infantry Regiment. It was assigned to the 15th Infantry Brigade, 8th Division, stationed at Camp Fremont, California, on 17 December 1917. The regiment was initially commanded by Colonel James R. Lindsay, who served until October 1918, when he was promoted to brigadier general and assigned to command the 97th Division. The regiment departed Camp Fremont on 18 October 1918 with elements of the 15th Infantry Brigade for movement to Camp Mills, New York and then movement overseas to France. The 31st Infantry Regiment ("Polar Bears") of the United States Army was formed on 13 August 1916, and was part of U.S. Army Forces Far East, USAFFE's Philippine Division (United States), Philippine Division during World War II. The 27th Infantry Regiment, nicknamed the "Wolfhounds", is an infantry regiment of the United States Army established in 1901, traditionally aligned with the 25th Infantry Division for more than 8 decades. It served in the Philippine–American War, in the Siberian Intervention after World War I, and as part of the 25th Infantry Division ("Tropic Lightning") during World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and later, the Iraq War.
