31st Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 31st Infantry Regiment ("Polar Bears") of the United States Army was formed on 13 August 1916, and was part of U.S. Army Forces Far East, USAFFE's Philippine Division (United States), Philippine Division during World War II. The unit is rare in that it was formed and has spent most of its life on non-American soil. The regiment is the third to bear the designation; the first was formed for the War of 1812 and disbanded in 1815. The second was created from the 3rd Battalion of the 13th Infantry Regiment (United States), 13th Infantry on 28 July 1866, in the reorganization of the U.S. Army following the American Civil War. The second organization to be called the 31st Infantry was consolidated with its sister regiment the 22d Infantry Regiment (United States), 22nd Infantry (also formed out of the 13th) in an 1869 reorganization. Infantry
Infantry, or infantryman are a type of soldier who specialize in ground combat, typically fighting dismounted. Historically the term was used to describe foot soldiers, i.e. those who march and fight on foot. The war in Afghanistan was a prolonged armed conflict lasting from 2001 to 2021. Fort William McKinley
Fort Andres Bonifacio (formerly Fort William McKinley) is the site of the national headquarters of the Philippine Army (Headquarters Philippine Army or HPA) located in Taguig, Philippines. The camp is named after Andres Bonifacio, the revolutionary leader of the Katipunan during the Philippine Revolution. It is located near Villamor Air Base, the national headquarters of the Philippine Air Force (PAF). The 22nd Infantry Regiment is a parent regiment of the United States Army. Currently the 2nd Battalion is active, with the regimental colors residing at Fort Drum, New York. The 13th Infantry Regiment ("First at Vicksburg") is a United States Army infantry regiment whose battalions are currently tasked as basic training battalions. The Philippine Division, or from 1944–1947 the 12th Infantry Division, was the core U.S. infantry division of the United States Army's Philippine Department before and during World War II. The 32nd Infantry Regiment is a battalion within the United States Army. Of the original regiment, only the 1st Battalion remains as an active duty unit. The 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment is a light infantry battalion assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, garrisoned at Fort Drum, New York. The 30th Infantry Regiment is a United States Army infantry regiment. Two battalions are currently active under the United States Army Regimental System; there is no active regimental headquarters, with regimental designation being used only for historical tradition. General history Previous units designated "30th Infantry Regiment" A unit designated the 30th Infantry Regiment was first constituted in 1813. President James Madison formed the 30th Regiment to combat English forces during the War of 1812. However, the regiment spent much of the war in training, and did not see much action. After the war ended, the 30th Regiment was disbanded. When the Civil War began, the 30th Regiment was recreated and reassigned as the 12th Infantry Regiment.
