Abasolo, Guanajuato
Abasolo is a Mexican city (and municipality) located in the Southwest region of the state of Guanajuato. The municipality has an area of 601.73 square kilometres (1.98% of the surface of the state), and is bordered to the north by Pueblo Nuevo and Valle de Santiago, to the south by the state of Michoacán and Huanímaro, and to the west by Pénjamo and Cuerámaro. The municipality had 79,093 inhabitants according to the 2005 census. The city was estimated to have 28,100 inhabitants in 2020. In pre-Columbian times the area was known as Cuitzeo or "Place of skunks (''Lugar de Zorrillos'')", by the mostly Purépecha inhabitants. Pénjamo
Pénjamo ( or Penxamo 'place of ahuehuetes or sabinos'; Cradle of Hidalgo) is the seat of Pénjamo municipality, one of 46 municipalities of Guanajuato, Mexico. It was cofounded in 1549 by Guamares, Purépechas, and Otomis prior to the outbreak of the Chichimeca war. Purépecha People
The Purépecha ( ) are a group of Indigenous peoples of Mexico, Indigenous people centered in the northwestern region of Michoacán, Mexico, mainly in the area of the cities of Cherán and Pátzcuaro. Mariano Abasolo
José Mariano Sixto de Abasolo y Rodríguez (1783–1816) was a Mexican revolutionist, born at Dolores, Guanajuato. He participated in the revolution started by Miguel Hidalgo. Biography In 1809 he belonged to one of the first conspiracy groups located in Valladolid (today's Morelia). The conspiracy was discovered but Ignacio Allende and Abasolo were not imprisoned. Immediately they joined another conspiracy group in Queretaro. Abasolo was rich; mainly he economically supported the independence movement and was not involved in many military actions. At the beginning of the war, on 15 September 1810, he was ordered by Hidalgo to seize all the weapons and munitions that were kept in the arsenal of Dolores. In 1810 he went with the independent army to San Miguel el Grande (today's San Miguel de Allende), Celaya, where he was named captain of the Dragones de la Reyna regiment.
