The 7th Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) takes place from July 21–28, 2024, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. On June 24, 2024, MIFFest President and Founder Joanne Goh announced that the festival will honor two individuals, Indonesian actress Christine Hakim and Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda. Love Lies (2024 Film)
''Love Lies'' () is a 2024 Hong Kong romance film directed and co-written by Ho Miu Ki, marking her directorial debut as part of the First Feature Film Initiative. Starring Sandra Ng and MC Cheung Tin-fu, the film revolves around a melancholic romance that develops from an online scam, featuring a lonely doctor (Ng) who falls prey to a scammer (Cheung). After co-writing ''Meow'' (2017), Ho Miu Ki began developing the screenplay during the COVID-19 pandemic and was selected for the First Feature Film Initiative in 2020. Principal photography took place from June to August 2023, with filming locations in Hong Kong and Hokkaido, Japan. The film features the theme song "Penpal" performed by MC Cheung Tin-fu. The film had its world premiere at the 48th Hong Kong International Film Festival on 29 March 2024, followed by a theatrical release in Hong Kong on 12 September. Astrid Rondero
Astrid Rondero is a Mexicans, Mexican film director, producer and screenwriter. Along with Fernanda Valadez, she is known for co-writing, co-directing, and co-producing films that explore social issues in Mexico. Work Rondero and co-writer/director Valadez initially conceived the story of ''Identifying Features'' (2020) around 2012. Rondero's collaboration with Valadez began with short films such as ''Of This World'' (2010), ''In Still Waters'' (2011) and ''400 Bags'' (2014). Sujo
''Sujo'' is a 2024 coming-of-age story, coming-of-age crime drama film written and directed by Astrid Rondero and starring Juan Jesús Varela. It premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival where it won the World Cinema Dramatic Grand Jury Prize. It is a co-production between Mexico, the United States and France. Plot Josué, a Sicarios, sicario for the cartel, is assassinated, leaving his 4-year-old son Sujo behind. Sujo's aunts, Nemesia and Rosalía, take him to be raised in a remote mountain shack.
