Evil Does Not Exist
is a 2023 Japanese drama film written and directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi. With a cast of non-professional actors, the film follows a single father who lives in a village that is disrupted by a real estate project and the consequences its development will have to their environment. The film was selected to compete for the Golden Lion at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize and the FIPRESCI Award from the International Federation of Film Critics. Ryusuke Hamaguchi
is a Japanese film director and screenwriter. An alumnus of the University of Tokyo and the Tokyo University of the Arts, Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, he started gaining attention in his home country with the graduate film ''Passion'' (2008). Hamaguchi first gained international recognition with the film ''Happy Hour (2015 Japanese film), Happy Hour'' (2015) and continued with ''Asako I & II'' (2018). Jim O'Rourke (born January 18, 1969) is an American musician, instrumentalist, composer, singer-songwriter and record producer.
