2020 Toumour Attacks
On 15 March and 12 December 2020, jihadist group Boko Haram carried out attacks in Toumour, Diffa Region Diffa is one of the seven Regions of Niger, located in the southeast of the country. The capital of the region is Diffa. Geography Diffa Region is situated in the extreme southeast of Niger between 10° 30’ and 15° 35’ longitude East and 1 ..., Niger. On 15 March 2020, Boko Haram attacked a military post, injuring a soldier. They were repelled, during which 50 insurgents were killed. On 12 December 2020, Boko Haram attacked the village, killing 28 people: 10 from gunshots, 14 by fire and four by drowning. The insurgents injured about 100 other people and burned 800 homes. Boko Haram
Boko Haram, officially known as ''Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād'' ( ar, جماعة أهل السنة للدعوة والجهاد, lit=Group of the People of Sunnah for Dawah and Jihad), is an Islamic terrorist organization based in northeastern Nigeria, which is also active in Chad, Niger, and northern Cameroon. In 2016, the group split, resulting in the emergence of a hostile faction known as the Islamic State's West Africa Province. Founded by Mohammed Yusuf in 2002, the group was led by Abubakar Shekau from 2009 until his death in 2021, although it splintered into other groups after Yusuf's death and also in 2015. Toumour
Toumour is a village and rural commune in Niger located near the Niger–Nigeria border. As of 2011, the commune had a total population of 1336 people. On September 4, 2016, clashes near the village killed at least 30 Boko Haram militants and five soldiers. The armed forces said Boko Haram attacked their military post on March 15, 2020, which they responded to by repelling the attack, killing 50 insurgents. Diffa is one of the seven Regions of Niger, located in the southeast of the country. The capital of the region is Diffa. Geography Diffa Region is situated in the extreme southeast of Niger between 10° 30’ and 15° 35’ longitude East and 13° 04’ and 18° 00’ latitude North.
