2024–25 SailGP Championship
The 2024–25 SailGP Championship, officially the Rolex SailGP 2025 Championship, is the fifth season of the SailGP championship. Entries Team changes Teams from Brazil and Italy will join the fifth season. France will miss the opening round of the season due to a shortage of F50 catamarans. Calendar The Race Calendar for 2024-25 was announced on July 9, 2024, and features new stops in Brazil, UAE, a yet to be announced Middle Eastern Country, Germany, Switzerland and a return to Great Britain. Notably; fans from Canada and Bermuda were disappointed to not have return visits to their countries but remain hopeful to be included in a sixth season. Season Round 1: Dubai Emirates Dubai Sail Grand Prix presented by P&O Marinas marked the debut of two new teams joining the fleet - Mubadala Brazil and Red Bull Italy. F50 (catamaran)
The F50 is a one-design foiling catamaran used in the SailGP race series. The name is an abbreviation of "Foiling" and "a hull length of 50 feet". The F50s are adapted from the AC50s used in the America's Cup, with modifications including new control systems and modular wingsails. The F50s are one of the fastest racing classes in history, with a predicted top speed of 52.2 knots (96.6 km/h, 60 mph); the current F50 speed record, achieved by the France SailGP Team at the Range Rover France Sail Grand Prix in 2022, stands at 53.96 knots (99.94 km/h, 62.10 mph). On July 18 2024 Canada SailGP Team achieved a top speed of 55.06 knots (101.98 km/h, 63.37 mph) whilst testing new T-shaped foils, to replace L-shaped foils, in San Francisco. Three AC50s from the 2017 America's Cup were converted to comply with the F50 one-design rule to create the new SailGP fleet racing circuit. Ruggero Tita
Ruggero Tita (born 20 March 1992) is an Italian sailor. He competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics and 2024 Summer Olympics, with Caterina Banti, in Nacra 17, winning two gold medals. From the age of 12 on the national team, he conquered the title of Italian champion in the Optimist class at 13 years old, later he became European Team race champion and Swiss Open champion. He competed in the 29er class and after a short period he moved on to the 49er class where he became an Italian champion. In 2015, he won the Olympic Week on Lake Garda and subsequently the U23 Youth European Champion and the silver medal at the U23 Youth World Championship. Subsequently, with Pietro Zucchetti, represented Italy at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the 49er event. United States SailGP Team is an American sailing team which participates in the SailGP international sailing competition. History United States SailGP Team was established in 2019 SailGP championship, 2019 by F50 League LLC as a part of the inaugural season of the SailGP competition. America has a long history in sailing, and many former Americas Cup races sailors are on the team.
