2024–25 PWHL Season
The 2024–25 PWHL season was the second season of operation of the Professional Women's Hockey League. Six teams competed during the season, located in Lowell, Saint Paul, Laval, Newark, Ottawa, and Toronto. In the playoffs, the Minnesota Frost won their second consecutive Walter Cup, defeating the Ottawa Charge in four games for the title. League business The 2024 PWHL Draft was held on June 10 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. On September 9, 2024, the PWHL revealed new names and logos for all six teams: Boston Fleet, Minnesota Frost, Montreal Victoire, New York Sirens, Ottawa Charge, and Toronto Sceptres. Professional Women's Hockey League
The Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL; , LPHF) is a women's professional ice hockey league in North America. The league comprises eight teams, four each from the United States and Canada. The teams play a Season (sports), regular season to earn one of four places in a Playoffs, postseason tournament that determines the winner of the Walter Cup. The PWHL is wholly owned and operated by the Mark Walter, Mark Walter Group. Boston Fleet
The Boston Fleet are a professional ice hockey team based in the Greater Boston area that competes in the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). They are one of the six charter franchises of the league. The team plays its home games at Tsongas Center. History Founding and inaugural season On August 29, 2023, it was announced that one of the PWHL's first six franchises would be located in Boston. This ensured the continuation of professional women's hockey in the area after the folding of the Boston Pride and the Premier Hockey Federation earlier that summer; the Pride had been that league's most successful franchise, winning three Isobel Cup championships. Greg Fargo
Greg Fargo (born May 21, 1983) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former goaltender. He is the current head coach for the New York Sirens of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). He previously served as the head coach for Elmira College and Colgate's women's ice hockey teams. Playing career Fargo played college ice hockey at Elmira College where he posted a 45–29–9 record in 88 games for the Soaring Eagles. During his senior season, he recorded the lowest goals against average (2.04) and highest save percentage (.926) in program history. The Soaring Eagles won the ECAC West tournament and Fargo was named the tournament Most Outstanding Player. They advanced to the Final Four of the 2006 NCAA Division III men's ice hockey tournament. Howie Draper
Howie Draper (born April 3, 1967) is a Canadian ice hockey coach for the University of Alberta. He has the most wins of any head coach in U Sports women's ice hockey history and was the inaugural head coach of PWHL New York. Career Prior to his coaching career, Draper played five years of college ice hockey at the University of Alberta, totalling nine goals and 48 points in 115 games. Draper coached the University of Alberta women's ice hockey team from 1997 to 2023, winning 14 Canada West titles and eight national championships, more than any other coach in U Sports women's ice hockey history. On January 10, 2020, Draper became the first coach to surpass 600 wins since the addition of women's hockey to U Sports with a 3–0 victory over Mount Royal University. American Hockey League
The American Hockey League (AHL) is a professional ice hockey league in North America that serves as the primary developmental league of the National Hockey League (NHL). The league comprises 32 teams, with 26 in the United States and 6 in Canada. As of the 2024–25 AHL season, all 32 NHL teams held affiliations with an AHL team. Historically, when an NHL team does not have an AHL affiliate, its players are assigned to AHL teams affiliated with other NHL franchises. Kendall Coyne Schofield
Kendall Coyne Schofield (born May 25, 1992) is an American professional ice hockey player and captain for the Minnesota Frost and the United States national team. With the national team, she has won six gold medals at the IIHF World Women's Championships and the gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics. In 2016, she was the winner of the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. In January 2017, Coyne was recognized as the recipient of the NCAA Today's Top 10 Award. She has also been a color commentator for the San Jose Sharks. Mira Jalosuo
Mira Jalosuo (born 3 February 1989) is a Finnish ice hockey player and head coach for the St. Cloud State women's ice hockey team. She previously served as an assistant coach to the Minnesota Frost of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). As a member of the Finnish national team, she won a bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games and five bronze medals at the IIHF World Women's Championships. Jalosuo attended the University of Minnesota and played NCAA Division I ice hockey with the Minnesota Golden Gophers from 2009 until her graduation in 2013. She was one of the first European players to join the team and recorded 19 goals and 37 assists (56 points) during her collegiate career. 2024–25 Minnesota Frost Season
The 2024–25 Minnesota Frost season was the team's second season as a member of the Professional Women's Hockey League. They played their home games at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The Frost defeated the Toronto Sceptres in the semifinals of the 2025 PWHL playoffs to advance to the 2025 PWHL Finals. During the Finals they defeated the Ottawa Charge to win their second consecutive Walter Cup. Melissa Caruso
Melissa Caruso is the general manager of the Minnesota Frost, a member of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). Caruso was named to this position in September 2024, a few months after the team won the inaugural Walter Cup championship. Career Caruso previously worked at the American Hockey League (AHL) for 15 years, most recently as the Vice President of Hockey Operations and Governance. In that role, Caruso was responsible for scheduling games for the 31 teams in the league, among other responsibilities. Ken Klee
Kenneth William Klee (born April 24, 1971) is an American ice hockey coach and former professional defenseman who played most notably with the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League (NHL). He is currently the head coach of the Minnesota Frost of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). Early life Klee was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. The son of a project engineer whose job required frequent moves, he spent portions of his childhood in Indianapolis, Denver, Colorado, and Kansas City, Missouri, before moving to Toronto and the St. Michael's Buzzers on a hockey scholarship as a 17-year-old. Playing career Klee was drafted 177th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. Natalie Darwitz
Natalie Rose Darwitz (born October 13, 1983) is an American ice hockey executive, coach, and retired player, most recently serving as general manager of PWHL Minnesota in the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). Darwitz was a member of the US national ice hockey team for more than a decade and served as team captain for several seasons, beginning with the 2007–08 season. Her decorated playing career was highlighted by three world championship gold medals, two Olympic silver medals, and an Olympic bronze medal.
