2024–25 Kvindeligaen
The 2024–25 Kvindeligaen was the 89th season of Kvindeligaen, Denmark's premier women's handball league. Team Esbjerg were the defending champions, while EH Aalborg was promoted from the 1. division. Odense Håndbold won the regular season in perfect fashion, winning 26 of 26 games. Later they won the title, when they beat Team Esbjerg in the final 2-1 in matches. Aarhus Håndbold were relegated to the 1st Division after finishing last in the regular season. Kvindeligaen (handball)
The Kvindeligaen () is the top professional league for Danish women's handball clubs. It is administered by the Danish Handball Federation, and the winners are recognized as Danish champions. The league was previously called Bambusa Kvindeligaen for sponsorship reasons. It has previously been known as HTH GO Ligaen, Primo Tours Ligaen, Boxer Dameligaen, TOMS Ligaen and GuldBageren Ligaen. The current title holder is Team Esbjerg (2024). The European Handball Federation (EHF) ranks the Danish league 4th in the coefficients of leagues based on performances in European competitions over the past seasons. Competition format The Kvindeligaen shares the season style with the men's league. It consists of 14 teams, each playing 26 regular season games. TV 2 (Denmark)
TV 2 is a Danish government-owned broadcast and subscription television station, based in Odense, Funen. The station was founded in 1986, and made its first official broadcast in 1988. It makes daily broadcasts of regional and national news, as well as its morning talk show, '' Go'morgen Danmark''. Ceres Arena
Ceres Arena (formerly NRGi Arena) is an indoor arena mainly used for handball matches and public events in Aarhus, Denmark. The arena was opened in 2001 and has a capacity of 5,001 spectators (4,394 seats). It is part of the Aarhus Sports Park, which also includes Aarhus Stadium. Ceres Arena is home to Danish Women's Handball League team Aarhus United Elitehandball, Aarhus United and Danish Men's Handball League team Skanderborg Aarhus Håndbold. The arena functioned as the main venue in the 2002 European Women's Handball Championship, 2002 European Women's Championships, hosting the final. The arena was also used for basketball, by Bakken Bears, but because of the high price for renting the arena, Bakken Bears moved back to there old home Vejlby-Risskov Hallen. Aarhus
Aarhus (, , ; officially spelled Århus from 1948 until 1 January 2011) is the second-largest city in Denmark and the seat of Aarhus municipality, Aarhus Municipality. Viborg HK (Viborg Håndbold Klub) is a Danish professional handball club from Viborg, Denmark, Viborg. The club has many teams for both women and men, but especially the professional women's team is one of the most successful in Danish and European handball since the beginning of the 1990s. This team currently competes in the women's Danish Women's Handball League. SønderjyskE Damehåndbold is a women's handball club based in Aabenraa in South Jutland, Denmark. The club was founded in 2004 and has been part of the top tier league, Damehåndboldligaen two times. They promoted to the league again for the 2022/23 season. History SønderjyskE was created as a club for the whole region of South Jutland as it was obvious that it was impossible to create elite teams able to compete in the top leagues on the former basis of city teams. The men's football team used to be solely based in the city of Haderslev under the name Haderslev FK. Ikast Håndbold is a Danish professional women's handball club based in Ikast. They have competed in Damehåndboldligaen, Denmark's primary handball league, since 1991. History The club was founded as ''Ikast FS Håndboldafdeling'' on 20 June 1970 as a merger of the handball departments of ''Ikast DUI'' and ''Ikast Skytte Gymnastik Forening''. Their breakthrough came in 1991 when they won the Danish Cup and reached the top division, Dame Håndbold Ligaen. They saw success again in 1998 as they won their first and only Danish Championship gold. Ringkøbing Håndbold
Ringkøbing Håndbold (Ringkøbing Handball) is a Danish handball club from Ringkøbing. In the season 2023/24 the club played in the Danish Women's Handball League. When they played in the Danish 1st division, they reached the promotion play-off three times in a row in 2008/09, 2009/10 and 2010/11, but they did not manage to be promoted. In 2013 a week before the beginning of the 2013/2014 season, the top flight club Aalborg DH went bankrupt and was thus administratively relegated. Ringkøbing Håndbold were offered to take their place, which they accepted. Ringkøbing Håndbold played six seasons in the top flight before being relegated in 2018/2019 season. The next season promotion was just missed, when the club came second in the 1st division. However, in the 2020/2021 season they did win the 1st Division and thus promoted once again to the top flight. Skanderborg Håndbold
Skanderborg Håndbold, previously known as Vrold-Skanderborg Håndboldklub is a women's handball club based in Skanderborg in Jutland, Denmark. The club has over 650 members, which makes it one of the biggest handball clubs in Denmark and the biggest in Jutland. In 2021, Aarhus Håndbold merged with Skanderborg Håndbold's men's team, and they changed the name to Skanderborg Aarhus Håndbold. History The club was founded in 1982 and was the result of a merger between Stilling-Skanderborg and Vrold-Skanderborg Handball Club. Silkeborg-Voel KFUM (women's Handball)
Silkeborg-Voel KFUM is a Danish handball club from Silkeborg and Voel. In the season 2023-2024 it plays in the Danish Women's Handball League. The team alternates between playing home matches in Jysk Arena in Silkeborg and Voelhallen in Voel History In 1957 Voel KFUM started around the central Jutland villages Sorring, Gjern and Voel. In 2001 the team entered a sponsorship agreement with Jyske Bank and changed their name to Silkeborg-Voel KFUM. In 2003 the men's team were promoted to the top division in Denmark, Herrehåndboldligaen. After two seasons the men's team merged with Bjerringbro FH to create Bjerringbro-Silkeborg-Voel, which later became Bjerringbro-Silkeborg Håndbold. Aarhus United
Aarhus United was a Danish women's handball club based in Aarhus. They played in Damehåndboldligaen, Denmark's premier women's handball league. Aarhus United was founded in 2017 and took over SK Aarhus's league license for the 2017-18 season. In June 2024, it was announced that the club and another Aarhus based handball team Aarhus HC had decided to merge under the new club name Aarhus Håndbold. Aarhus United was founded as a reaction to the closing of the former Aarhus club SK Århus closing. The previous club had to close as the head sponsor withdrew, and the economy was not good enough to maintain the club. In their first season the club signed all former SK Århus players, and added Birna Berg Haraldsdóttir, June Bøttger, Louise Kristensen and Ditte Vind. Heine Eriksen was made the head coach. HH Elite
Horsens Håndboldklub Elite, also known as Horsens Håndboldklubis a Danish handball club. For the 2018/19 season, the team promoted to the Damehåndboldligaen, after its relegation in 2010. The team plays at home in Forum Horsens. At elite level the team goes by HH Elite, while at amateur and youth levels, the team is called by their original name, Horsens Håndboldklub. History The club was established in 1985 when Horsens forenede Håndboldklubber (HfH) and Dagnæs IF chose to merge. They decided to merge, as HfH only had a senior level team, while Dagnæs IF had good youth teams, but no senior team at a competitive level. And HfH itself is a merge of Horsens Freja and Horsens forenede Sportsklubber (HfS). Horsens HK therefore can lead its roots back to 1920 when they began playing handball in HfS.
