The 2024 Liga Profesional de Primera División season, also known as the Campeonato Uruguayo de Primera División 2024, was the 121st season of the Uruguayan Primera División, Uruguay's top-flight football league, and the 94th in which it is professional. The season, which was named " 100 años de Colombes", began on 16 February and ended on 2 December 2024. Peñarol were the champions, winning their fifty-second league title after winning both the Torneo Apertura and the Torneo Clausura, as well as topping the season's aggregate table, which ensured that the championship playoff would not be played. They clinched the title after beating Fénix 3–1 on the final round of the Torneo Clausura played on 1 December. Liverpool were the defending champions. Club Atlético River Plate is a Uruguayan football club based in Montevideo. The club currently plays in the Primera División, the top level of the Uruguayan football league system. Club Plaza Colonia de Deportes, or simply Plaza Colonia, is a Uruguayan professional football club from Colonia del Sacramento, that competes in the Uruguayan Primera Division. Founded in 1917, the club plays its home games at the 3,000 seater Estadio Juan Gaspar Prandi. History The club was founded on April 22, 1917 by Alberto Suppici. The season, named "Señor Fabián O'Neill", started on 4 March 2023 and ended on 27 January 2024. A total of 14 teams competed in the season; the top two teams and the winner of the promotion play-offs were promoted to the Uruguayan Primera División.
