2025 Uruguayan Primera División Season
The 2025 Liga Profesional de Primera División season, also known as the Liga AUF Uruguaya 2025, is the 122nd season of the Uruguayan Primera División, Uruguay's top-flight football league, and the 95th in which it is professional. The season, which was named " Juan Manuel Izquierdo", began on 31 January and is scheduled to end on 7 December 2025. Peñarol are the defending champions. Teams 16 teams compete in the season: the top thirteen teams in the relegation table of the 2024 season as well as three promoted teams from the Segunda División. The three lowest placed teams in the relegation table of the 2024 season (Rampla Juniors, Fénix and Deportivo Maldonado) were relegated to the Segunda División for the 2025 season. Juan Izquierdo
Juan Manuel Izquierdo Viana (4 July 1997 – 27 August 2024) was a Uruguayan professional footballer who played as a centre-back. He made 111 Uruguayan Primera División appearances for Cerro, Peñarol, Montevideo Wanderers, Liverpool and Nacional, winning the league in 2022 and 2023 for the last two clubs, respectively. He also briefly played in Mexico's Liga MX for Atlético San Luis in 2021. Izquierdo died at age 27, having collapsed due to cardiac arrhythmia during a Copa Libertadores match at São Paulo. 2019 Uruguayan Primera División Season
The 2019 Liga Profesional de Primera División season, also known as the Campeonato Uruguayo 2019, was the 116th season of Uruguay's top-flight football league, and the 89th in which it is professional. The season was named as "100 Años de Racing Club de Montevideo" and was originally scheduled to begin on 9 February but its start was pushed back for one week to 16 February. The season ended on 15 December with Nacional winning their forty-seventh title by beating Peñarol in the semifinal. Peñarol were the defending champions, having won back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018. Teams El Tanque Sisley, who did not compete in the 2018 season, as well as the two bottom-placed teams in the relegation table of the 2018 season, Torque and Atenas, were relegated to the Segunda División for the 2019 season. Club Plaza Colonia De Deportes
Club Plaza Colonia de Deportes, or simply Plaza Colonia, is a Uruguayan professional football club from Colonia del Sacramento, that competes in the Uruguayan Primera Division. Founded in 1917, the club plays its home games at the 3,000 seater Estadio Juan Gaspar Prandi. History The club was founded on April 22, 1917 by Alberto Suppici. They played in the Regional league of Colonia until 1999. They gained their affiliation with AUF in 2000. The Segunda División Profesional is the second division of professional football in Uruguay, established in 1942. The league is sometimes referred to as ''Primera B''.
