2021–22 Western United FC Season
The 2021–22 season was the third in the history of Western United Football Club. In addition to the domestic league, Western United also competed in the FFA Cup for the first time. They finished third in the regular season and then won the Championship, beating holders Melbourne City in the Grand Final. The season was documented in the docuseries United. Western United FC
Western United Football Club is an Australian professional Association football, soccer club. The club is based in the western Melbourne suburb of Tarneit, Victoria, Tarneit, the club aims to represent western Victoria, incorporating the western suburbs (Melbourne), western suburbs of Melbourne; the regional cities of Ballarat, and Geelong; and regional and country towns in western Victoria. The club was first established as part of an expansion process in the country's premier soccer competition, the A-League. Steven Lustica (; born 12 April 1991) is an Australian soccer player who plays as a central midfielder. Club career Gold Coast On 24 April 2009, it was confirmed that Lustica had been signed by Gold Coast United, after impressing United's assistant coach, Paul Okon, during his tenure as under-18s coach at the Australian Olympic Youth Festival. Dylan Wenzel-Halls (born 15 December 1997) is an Australian footballer who plays for the Malaysia Super League club Penang. Club career Youth career Wenzel-Halls played youth football at local club Ipswich Knights, played in their under-8 team through to under-15 team at Brisbane Lions and then at Olympic FC from 2013 to 2015, and with Brisbane Roar youth in 2016. Lachlan Andrew Wales (born 19 October 1997) is an Australian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Perth Glory. Léo Lacroix (born 27 February 1992) is a Swiss professional footballer who plays as a defender for Saudi Arabian club Al-Jabalain. Club career On 31 August 2016, Ligue 1 side Saint-Étienne announced that they had reached an agreement for the transfer of Lacroix. Jamie Iain Young (born 25 August 1985) is a retired professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Born in Australia, he was a youth international for England. Marko Ante "Mark" Rudan (born 27 August 1975) is an Australian association football manager and former player, who last managed A-League Men club Western Sydney Wanderers. Rudan was one of the inaugural inductees into the Sydney FC Hall of Fame in 2015. After four successful years as head coach of Sydney United, which included two National Premier Leagues titles, Rudan decided to leave his post to work with the Australia national under-20 soccer team, but returned shortly into the 2017 season.
