2020–21 Calgary Flames Season
The 2020–21 Calgary Flames season was the Flames' 41st season in Calgary, and the 49th season for the Flames' National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 6, 1972. The Flames attempted unsuccessfully to make the playoffs for a third straight year after getting eliminated in the First Round of the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs by the Dallas Stars. Due to the Canada–United States border restrictions brought in as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Flames were re-aligned with the other six Canadian franchises into the newly formed North Division. The league's 56-game regular season was played entirely within the new divisions, meaning that Calgary and the other Canadian teams played an all-Canadian schedule for the 2020–21 regular season as well as the first two rounds of the 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs. North Division (NHL)
The National Hockey League's North Division (branded as Scotia NHL North Division for sponsorship reasons) was one of the four divisions used by the NHL for the 2020–21 NHL season. This division was organized in 2020 as the result of the travel restrictions that had been in place since March 2020 between the Canada–United States border due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The entirety of the 2020–21 regular season and first two rounds of the playoffs were played between seven Canadian-based teams in the NHL. Of the four divisions in 2020–21, the North Division was the only one with a name not previously used by the NHL. The Calgary Flames are a professional ice hockey team based in Calgary. The team is a member of the Pacific Division in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Flames arrived in Calgary in 1980 after transferring from the city of Atlanta, Georgia, where they were known as the Atlanta Flames from their founding in 1972 until relocation. The 2024–25 season is the 45th season of play, and 46th year in Calgary ( 2004–05 NHL season was not played). It is the 53rd year for the Flames franchise, and including the team's time in Atlanta, the Flames have won over 1,800 regular season games, 12th overall in NHL history. David Rittich
David Rittich Jr. (born 19 August 1992) is a Czech professional ice hockey goaltender for the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has previously played for the Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs, Nashville Predators, and Winnipeg Jets. Rittich was an NHL All-Star in 2020 and has represented his native Czech Republic internationally. Playing career Rittich made his Czech Extraliga debut with BK Mladá Boleslav during the 2014–15 Czech Extraliga season. After two successful performances in the ELH, Rittich was signed to a one-year, two-way contract on 10 June 2016, by the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL). The 2020–21 Toronto Maple Leafs season was the 104th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on November 22, 1917.
