2018–19 Celtic Cup
The 2018 Celtic Cup is the inaugural edition of the Celtic Cup (2018 rugby union tournament), Celtic Cup rugby union competition, which features development regional and provincial teams from Ireland and Wales. It ran for six weeks from September 2018 until October 2018. Leinster Rugby, Leinster A won the inaugural edition, beating Scarlets A in the final. Formation The Irish Rugby Football Union and the Welsh Rugby Union created a new development competition, the Celtic Cup, for the emerging professional players from the four Irish provinces and four Welsh regions, announcing the tournament in August 2018. Colm de Buitléar (born 6 November 1997) is an Irish rugby union player who is a former member of the Connacht academy. He plays as a Centre, wing or fullback, and represented Corinthians in the All-Ireland League. He currently represents Terenure College RFC. Malone RFC
Malone RFC (Malone Rugby Football Club) is a rugby union club based in Belfast, in Northern Ireland playing in the Division 2B of the All-Ireland League. The club is affiliated with the Ulster Branch, itself part of the Irish Rugby Football Union. It is one of the last remaining Belfast rugby clubs not to have amalgamated and still plays at its original ground. Dan Patrick Sheehan (born 17 September 1998) is an Irish professional rugby union player who plays as a hooker for United Rugby Championship club Leinster and the Ireland national team. Club career Before playing professionally, Sheehan was a Leinster Schools Senior Cup semi-finalist with Clongowes Wood College in 2016. He then went to Trinity College and played on their rugby team in the All-Ireland League. He has also played in the All-Ireland League for Lansdowne. Conor O'Brien (born 2 February 1996) is an Irish former rugby union player who played for Leinster. GAA and family Growing up in Westmeath, O'Brien played more Gaelic sports than rugby union until well into his teens. He represented Westmeath at hurling up to under-16 level, and represented Westmeath in Gaelic football all the way to Minor level. His father Garrett was captain of the Offaly team which won the 1988 All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship, the only such victory in the county's history. Scott Penny (born 22 September 1999) is an Irish rugby union player for Leinster. His preferred position is openside flanker. Early life Penny attended St Michael's College, where he starred on several cup rugby teams. Leinster After leaving school in June 2018 he immediately entered the Leinster Rugby academy at the age of 18. Aaron Sexton (born 24 August 2000) is an Irish former rugby union player who played wing or fullback for Ulster in the United Rugby Championship. As of December 2024, he was participating in the NFL International Player Pathway Program, to attempt to play American Football professionally in the NFL. Matthew Rea (born 21 September 1993) is an Irish professional rugby union player who plays for Ulster as a back row forward. He was educated at Ballymena Academy, and helped the school win the 2010 Ulster Schools' Cup final.
