2018–19 Biathlon World Cup – Pursuit Women
The 2018–19 Biathlon World Cup – Pursuit Women started on Sunday 9 December 2018 in 2018–19 Biathlon World Cup – Stage 1, Pokljuka and finished on Saturday 23 March 2019 in 2018–19 Biathlon World Cup – Stage 9, Holmenkollen. It was won by Dorothea Wierer of Italy, with the defending titlist, Anastasiya Kuzmina of Slovakia, finishing third. Competition format The pursuit race is skied over five laps. The biathlete shoots four times at any shooting lane, in the order of prone, prone, standing, standing, totalling 20 targets. For each missed target a biathlete has to run a penalty loop. The 2018–19 Biathlon World Cup (BWC) was a multi-race series over a season of biathlon, organised by the International Biathlon Union. The season started on 2 December 2018 in Pokljuka, Slovenia and ended on 24 March 2019 in Oslo Holmenkollen, Norway. The defending overall champions from the 2017–18 Biathlon World Cup were Martin Fourcade of France and Kaisa Mäkäräinen of Finland. Franziska Preuß
Franziska Preuß (also spelled Preuss, born 11 March 1994) is a German biathlete and the World Cup winner of the 2024–25 season. She made her World Cup debut during the 2013–14 season and represented Germany at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics. Preuß has won gold medals at the Biathlon World Championships, triumphing in the relay in 2015 and the pursuit in 2025. She also secured the mass start title in the 2014–15 and 2024–25 seasons, along with the sprint title in the 2024–25 season. She achieved two top–3 finishes in the overall World Cup standings, placing third in the 2020–21 season and finally won the World Cup in the 2024–25 season. Tiril Eckhoff
Tiril Kampenhaug Eckhoff (born 21 May 1990) is a Norwegian former biathlete. Eckhoff is a two-time Olympic champion, winning the mixed relay at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and 2022 Winter Olympics, and also won a bronze in the mass start, a feat she repeated at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Biathlon World Championships 2019
The Biathlon World Championships 2019 took place in Östersund, Sweden, from 6 to 17 March 2019. There were a total of 12 competitions: sprint, pursuit, individual, mass start, and relay races for men and women, and two mixed relay races. The single mixed relay was on the program of the World Championships for the first time. All the events during this championships also counted for the 2018–19 Biathlon World Cup season. Host selection On 7 September 2014, Östersund won the voting (27 votes) in St. Wolfgang, Austria over Antholz, Italy (16 votes), Nové Město na Moravě, Czech Republic (4 votes) and Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia (2 votes).
