2017–18 Irish Super League Season
The 2017–18 Irish Super League season was the 45th running of Basketball Ireland's premier men's basketball competition. The season featured 12 teams from across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, with the regular season beginning on 15 September 2017 and ending on 17 March 2018 with UCD Marian claiming their first title in 40 years. Templeogue were victorious in the National Cup, while Tralee Warriors defended their Champions Trophy title. Super League (Ireland)
The Super League (formerly known as SuperLeague and Premier League) is the top-tier men's basketball league in Ireland. The league has 13 teams (12 in the Republic of Ireland and one in Northern Ireland). The league is an active member of Basketball Ireland, which is recognised by FIBA (also known as the International Basketball Federation) as the national governing body for basketball in Ireland. Rathfarnham () is a Southside (Dublin), southside suburb of Dublin, Republic of Ireland, Ireland in County Dublin. It is south of Terenure, east of Templeogue, and is in the postal districts of Dublin 14 and Dublin 16, 16. UCC Demons
UCC Demons are an Irish basketball team based in Cork. The team competes in the Super League and plays its home games at Mardyke Arena. The team is a division of Blue Demons Basketball Club and is directly associated with the University College Cork. History Early years In 1959, a youth club known as De Paul Boys Club was established in Sunday's Well, Cork as a means for boys to play indoor sports between September and April. In 1966, a men's team entered the senior ranks of Cork Basketball. The team was built off the basis of De Paul, with most of the players in the inaugural team having come through the juvenile level with De Paul. Thus, Blue Demons Basketball Club was established. Swords Thunder was an Irish basketball team based in Dublin. The team competed in the Super League and played its home games at the ALSAA Sports Complex. History Dublin Thunder In 2010, Dublin Thunder Basketball Club was founded. The following year, founder member Dave Baker became the inaugural coach of club's senior men's representative team. Aligned with Dublin Business School, Baker applied for national league status, but rulings required them to have played at least one year at local level before playing in the national league.
