2015–16 Indian Federation Cup
The 2015-16 Indian Federation Cup, also known as Hero Federation Cup due to sponsorship reasons, was the 37th edition of the Federation Cup, the main national football cup competition in India. The tournament was held from 30 April 2016 to 21 May 2016. Top 8 teams from 2015–16 I-League participated in the tournament. Ten Sports Network, the Official Broadcaster of Hero Federation Cup 2016 telecast only the Semi-finals and the Final match while Knockout stage matches were streamed live on I-league website. Bengaluru FC were the reigning champions of the Federation Cup, having won the tournament in 2015. However, they were upset in the quarter-finals by 8th placed Aizawl. All matches except the final were played as two-legged tie on home and away basis, with the application of the away goals rule. Federation Cup (India)
The Federation Cup was an annual knockout football competition and the premier cup competition in men's domestic Indian football until 2017. Established in 1977, it was organized by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). The Federation Cup was eventually replaced by the Super Cup from the 2018 season. Bengaluru were the last champions, having defeated Mohun Bagan 2–0 in the 2017 final. Joel Yinka Sunday Ayeni (born 31 December 1988) is a Nigerian professional footballer who last played as a forward for I-League outfit TRAU FC. Alfred Kemah Jaryan (born 24 September 1988) is a Liberian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder. Club career Mohammedan In 2010, Alfred moved to India and signed with Mohammedan Sporting and appeared in the I-League. Away Goals Rule
The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground. Under the away goals rule, if the total goals scored by each team are equal, the team that has scored more goals " away from home" wins the tiebreaker.
