2015 WTA Finals – Singles
Agnieszka Radwańska defeated Petra Kvitová in the final, 6–2, 4–6, 6–3 to win the singles tennis title at the 2015 WTA Finals. This marked the first time since 2005 WTA Tour Championships, 2005 that the WTA Finals, Tour Finals champion did not win a Grand Slam (tennis)#Tournaments, major in the corresponding year. Serena Williams was the three-time reigning champion, but withdrew due to injury. Garbiñe Muguruza, Flavia Pennetta and Lucie Šafářová made their debuts at the event. For the first time since the round-robin format was re-introduced in 2003, both finalists reached the final despite losing two matches in the round-robin stage. Agnieszka Roma Radwańska (; born 6 March 1989) is a Polish former professional tennis player and current coach. She was ranked world No. 2 in women's singles by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), in July 2012. 2005 WTA Tour Championships
The 2005 WTA Tour Championships, also known as the Sony Ericsson Championships, was a women's round robin tennis tournament played on indoor hard courts at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, United States. It was the 35th edition of the year-end singles championships, the 30th edition of the year-end doubles championships, and was part of the 2005 WTA Tour. The tournament was held between November 8 and November 13, 2005. Fourth-seeded Amélie Mauresmo won the singles event, the first French player to win the title, and she earned $1,000,000 first-prize money as well as 485 ranking points. WTA Finals
The WTA Finals (formerly known as the WTA Tour Championships or WTA Championships) is the season-ending championship of the WTA Tour. It is the most significant tennis event in the women's annual calendar after the four majors, as it features the top eight singles players and top eight doubles teams based on their results throughout the season. The eighth spot is reserved, if needed, for a player or team who won a major in the current year and is ranked from ninth to twentieth. The tournament predates the WTA Tour and started in 1972 as the championship tournament of the Tour's predecessor: the Virginia Slims Circuit. Since 2003, the tournament has used a unique format not seen in other WTA Tour events: the players are separated into two groups of four, within which they each play three round-robin matches. The Grand Slam in tennis is the achievement of winning all four major championships in one discipline in a calendar year.
