2008–09 MOL Liga Season
The 2008–2009 MOL Liga Season was the first season played, of this international ice hockey. Six teams from Hungary and two from Romania participated. MOL Liga
The Erste Liga (formerly the MOL Liga) is an international ice hockey league organized for clubs based in Hungary and Romania. It is sponsored by the Erste Bank Hungary. The games played between the Hungarian teams count towards the Hungarian National Championship in the OB I Bajnokság. The Romanian teams also compete in the Romanian National Championship Liga Națională. The last 6* seasons have been won by Romanian teams: HSC Csíkszereda three times, Gyergyói HK twice and Corona Brașov once. ''* The season 2019–20 (Covid) recognized both Ferencvárosi TC and HSC Csíkszereda as winners.'' History In the first season, the league comprised six Hungarian teams and four Romanian teams. HC Csíkszereda went undefeated in the post-season to win the first MOL Liga title. In 2009–10, the number of teams went down to five Hungarian and two Romanian teams. Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey in North America) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an Ice rink, ice skating rink with Ice hockey rink, lines and markings specific to the sport. Ferencvárosi Torna Club Jégkorong Szakosztály is a Hungarian professional ice hockey team that currently plays in the OB I bajnokság and in the Erste Liga. Steaua București Hockey
Steaua Rangers are a Romanian professional ice hockey club that currently plays in the Romanian Hockey League. They play their home games at the Berceni Arena and sometimes at the Allianz-Țiriac Arena in Otopeni. History The hockey team was founded in 1951 as CCA București and existed alongside other sections (e.g., football, handball, basketball) in the Steaua București sports club. In 1961, their name was changed to CSA Steaua București. With 40 championship titles and 31 cup victories, Steaua is the most successful ice hockey team in Romania. They last won the Championship in 2006, and the Cup in 2008. In 2008, Steaua joined the MOL Liga along with CS Progym Gheorgheni in addition to the Romanian Hockey League.
