2007–08 Luxembourg National Division
The 2007–08 Luxembourg National Division was the 94th season of top level association football in Luxembourg. The competition ran from August 2007 to 31 May 2008. F91 Dudelange won their fourth consecutive title. Teams Format As in 2006–07, the 2007–08 season involved a round-robin among the fourteen teams. Thus, each team played 26 games over the course of the calendar. The bottom two teams were relegated automatically; these teams were CS Pétange and FC Victoria Rosport. The third-bottom (twelfth-placed) team was required to take part in a play-off with the third-placed team from the Division of Honour for the place in the National Division the following season. In the event, FC Wiltz 71 finished third-bottom, and lost the play-off to Sporting Steinfort. Luxembourg National Division
The National Division (, , ), known as the BGL Ligue for sponsorship reasons, is the highest association football, football league in Luxembourg. Until 2011, it was known as the BGL Ligue, after the Luxembourg Football Federation managed to seal a sponsorship deal with Fortis (finance), Fortis. Before 2006, it contained twelve teams, but it expanded to fourteen for the 2006–07 Luxembourg National Division, 2006–07 season. Following the abandonment of the previous season, the 2020–21 Luxembourg National Division, 2020–21 season saw the further expansion of the league to 16 teams. The current champions are Differdange 03. FC Avenir Beggen
Football Club Avenir Beggen is a football club, based in Beggen, a quarter of Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. The club were founded in 1915 as FC Daring Beggen but changed their name to FC Avenir Beggen a year later. In 1940, they were renamed SV 1915 Beggen, but in 1944, it was changed again to FC Avenir Beggen. Avenir Beggen had played in the National Division in consecutive seasons since 1965–66, but were relegated in the 2005–06 season. Finishing second in their first season in the second-tier Division of Honour, Avenir returned to the National Division at the first time of asking. In 2008/09 the club finished 14th and were relegated back to the Luxembourg Division of Honour. Pétange
Pétange (; ; ) is a Communes of Luxembourg, commune and town in south-western Luxembourg. It is part of the Esch-sur-Alzette (canton), canton of Esch-sur-Alzette and is the fifth-most populous commune in Luxembourg, as well as the most populous without List of towns in Luxembourg, town status. Bascharage
Bascharage (; ; ) is a town and a former commune in south-western Luxembourg. Since 2012, it is part of the commune of Käerjeng. History Bascharage with the other towns like Linger, Hautcharage, and Pétange were owned by the "Hoheit Kerschen". The first known reference to them was on April 4, 1281, for obtaining their freedom under the law of Beamont "Freiheitsbrief nach Böhmerrecht". The freedom of Clemency probably happened in 1260. After the occupation of France (1794 – 1815), the "Hoheit Kerschen" changed in "municipalité cantonale Bascharage" with the townships of Bascharage, Clemency, Mamer, Garnich, and Dippach. Jeunesse Esch (full name ''Association Sportive la Jeunesse d'Esch/Alzette'') is a professional football club based in Esch-sur-Alzette, in south-western Luxembourg. Dudelange
Dudelange (; ; ) is a commune with town status in southern Luxembourg. It is the fourth-most populous commune, with 22,043 inhabitants. Dudelange is situated close to the border with France. The commune also includes the smaller town of Budersberg, to the north-west. The Mont Saint-Jean, close to Budersberg, hosts the ruins of a medieval castle. In 1794 the French Revolutionary Army committed atrocities against the local population in Dudelange, when they massacred 79 civilians. Differdange (; or locally ; ) is a Communes of Luxembourg, commune with List of towns in Luxembourg, town status in south-western Luxembourg, west from the Luxembourg City, country's capital.
