The 2001–02 Omani League was the 26th edition of the top football league in Oman. Dhofar S.C.S.C. were the defending champions, having won the 2000–01 Omani League season. Al-Oruba SC emerged as the champions of the 2001–02 Omani League with a total of 22 points. Teams This season the league featured 10 teams. Ruwi Club and Bawshar Club were relegated to the Second Division League after finishing in the relegation zone in the 2000–01 season. The two relegated teams were replaced by Second Division League teams Sidab Club and Al-Khaboura SC. Omani League
The Oman Professional League (; known as the ''Omantel Professional League'' for sponsorship reasons), previously known as the Omantel Elite League, is the top division of the Oman Football Association, and was officially created in 1976. Currently, the most successful team in the league is Dhofar S.C.S.C., Dhofar with 12 titles to their name. Evolution to a professional league In 2010, during the annual draw for the Sultan Qaboos Cup, Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Sultan of Oman, granted the Oman Football Association, OFA an annual 2.6 million Omani Rial, rial (approximately 6.7 million US Dollars, dollars) till the year 2015 to further boost the development of the league. Sur, Oman
Sur () is the capital city of Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate, and the former capital of Ash Sharqiyah Region in northeastern Oman, on the coast of the Gulf of Oman. Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex
The Sultan Qaboos Stadium at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex (), also known locally as Boshar (), is a government-owned multi-purpose stadium in the Boshar district of Muscat, Oman. It is currently used mostly for football matches. It has facilities for athletics too and has also staged field hockey matches. The stadium originally had a capacity of over 40,000, but after recent renovations the capacity was reduced to 28,000. It is the home stadium of the Oman national football team.
