2001–02 Oklahoma State Cowboys Basketball Team
The 2001–02 Oklahoma State Cowboys basketball team represented Oklahoma State University as a member of the Big 12 Conference during the 2001–02 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were led by 12th-year head coach Eddie Sutton and played their home games at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Oklahoma. They finished the season 23–9, 10–6 in Big 12 play to finish in fourth place. The Cowboys lost to Missouri in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament. The team received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 7 seed in the South region. Oklahoma State lost to No. 10 seed Kent State in the opening round. Eddie Sutton
Edward Eugene Sutton (March 12, 1936 – May 23, 2020) was an American college basketball coach. A native of Bucklin, Kansas, Sutton played college basketball at Oklahoma A&M (later Oklahoma State Cowboys basketball, Oklahoma State) and was a head coach at the high school, junior college, and college levels spanning six decades. After beginning his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Oklahoma State under Henry Iba, Sutton was a successful head coach at Tulsa Central High School and the College of Southern Idaho. Sutton began coaching at the NCAA level in 1969 at Creighton Bluejays men's basketball, Creighton University, followed by Arkansas Razorbacks men's basketball, Arkansas from 1974 to 1985, Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball, Kentucky from 1985 to 1989, and Oklahoma State from 1990 to 2006. Valley High School (VHS) is a public school located in Las Vegas, Nevada that also offers three widely recognized magnet programs: the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and Middle Years Programme, the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism (AOHT), and the MSTEM Program that was introduced in 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A, which is a part of the Clark County School District. 2001–02 Big 12 Conference Men's Basketball Season
The Big 12 Conference is a group of 16 (originally 12) universities which compete in the NCAA Division I level. The conference was formed in 1994 but did not begin conference play until the fall of 1996. The schools that composed the Big 12 Conference in the most recent 2022–23 season, except West Virginia, were members of either the Big Eight Conference or the Southwest Conference, and have won six national titles including three titles since the inception of the Big 12 Conference.
