Marat Safin
Marat Mubinovich Safin ( rus, Мара́т Муби́нович Са́фин, , mɐˈrat ˈsafʲɪn, Ru-Marat-Safin.ogg; ; born 27 January 1980) is a Russian former professional tennis player and former politician. He was ranked as the List of ATP number 1 ranked singles tennis players, world No. 1 in men's singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) for nine weeks. Safin won 15 ATP Tour-level singles titles, including two Grand Slam (tennis)#Tournaments, majors at the 2000 US Open – Men's singles, 2000 US Open and 2005 Australian Open – Men's singles, 2005 Australian Open, and helped lead Russia Davis Cup team, Russia to Davis Cup titles in 2002 Davis Cup, 2002 and 2006 Davis Cup, 2006. Nicolas Escudé
Nicolas Jean-Christophe Escudé (; born 3 April 1976) is a former professional tennis player from France, who turned professional in 1995. He won four singles titles and two doubles titles during his career. Escudé is best remembered for the vital role he played in the 2001 Davis Cup final against Australia on the grass-courts of Melbourne. Escudé beat the recently crowned World No. 1, Lleyton Hewitt in the first rubber with a win in five sets, repeating what he did to Hewitt earlier that year in the fourth round of Wimbledon. Two days later, Escudé won the decisive fifth rubber for France against Wayne Arthurs in four sets. Fernando Francisco González Ciuffardi (; born 29 July 1980) is a Chilean former professional tennis player. Germán Puentes Alcañiz (born 18 December 1972) is a former professional tennis player from Spain. Career Puentes was the runner-up in the 1989 Spanish Junior Championships. The Spaniard appeared in the main singles draw of five Grand Slams during his career but only once made the second round, at the 2001 Wimbledon Championships, with a win over Mariano Puerta. He also won just one Grand Slam doubles match, which was against South Africans Jeff Coetzee and Marcos Ondruska in the 2001 Australian Open, partnering Juan Balcells. Alberto Berasategui Salazar (born 28 June 1973) is a former top-10 professional tennis player from Spain. He was a Grand Slam finalist at the 1994 French Open, and won a total of 14 ATP singles titles, achieving a career-high singles ranking of world No. 7 in November 1994. Alex Patricio Calatrava (born 14 June 1973) is a former tour tennis player from Spain, who turned professional in 1993. The right-hander won one singles title (2000, San Marino). José Acasuso
José Javier "Chucho" Acasuso (; born 20 October 1982) is a tennis coach and a former professional player from Argentina. Like many of his fellow countrymen, he favoured clay. He was known for his strong serve and his hard groundstrokes off both sides. He won three ATP Tour singles titles. In doubles, Acasuso together with Sebastián Prieto, won four titles: in 2005 in Stuttgart and also in Bucharest, and in 2006 and 2008 in Viña Del Mar. Federico Luzzi
Federico Luzzi (; 3 January 1980 – 25 October 2008) was an Italian professional tennis player who had been ranked as high as World No. 92. Luzzi had been suspended from professional tennis in 2008 for six months after a determination was made that he had gambled on the outcome of matches over a three-year span. He was diagnosed with leukemia on a Wednesday and died four days later. While he was on suspension and awaiting the outcome of the case he studied acting in Hollywood. He screen tested and was to return to Hollywood in 2009 to begin filming two movies. The FedeLux charity was founded in his honor, searching for a cure for cancer.
