The 1997–98 Nemzeti Bajnokság I, also known as NB I, was the 96th season of top-tier football in Hungary. The league was officially named ''Raab–Karcher NB1'' for sponsoring reasons. Nemzeti Bajnokság I
The Nemzeti Bajnokság (, ), also known as NB I or Fizz Liga after its title sponsor, OTP Bank's webshop subsidiary, is a professional association football league in Hungary and the highest level of the Hungarian football league system. Twelve teams compete in the league, playing each other three times, once at home, once away, and the third match is played at the stadium that the last match was not played at. At the end of the season, the top team enters the qualification rounds for the UEFA Champions League, while the runner-up and the third place, together with the winner of the Magyar Kupa enter the UEFA Conference League qualification rounds. The bottom two clubs are relegated to Nemzeti Bajnokság II, the second-level league, to be replaced by the winner and the runner up of the Nemzeti Bajnokság II, NB II. Vasas SC () is a Hungarian sports club based in Budapest. Members of the ''Hungarian Union of Iron Workers'' founded the club as ''Vas- és Fémmunkások Sport Clubja'', the "Sport Club of Iron and Metal Workers", on 16 March 1911. The club colours are red and blue. Most of its facilities are situated in Budapest's 13th district in the north of the city. They have won the Hungarian League six times. Budapest Honvéd Football Club (), commonly known as Budapest Honvéd or simply Honvéd, is a Hungarian sports club based in Kispest, Budapest, with the colours of red and black. Szombathelyi Haladás (), is a Hungarian football club based in Szombathely. ''Haladás'' is the Hungarian word for ''progress''. The club, which was founded in 1919, plays its home games at the Haladás Sportkomplexum which has a capacity of 8,903. The club colours are green and white. BFC Siófok
Bodajk FC Siófok, generally shortened to BFC Siófok, is a Hungarian football club based in Siófok, a small town on the shores of Lake Balaton. The club was founded in 1921 as ''Siófok SE''. The word ''Bodajk'' in the club's name stems from a merger with Bodajk FC in 2005. The colours of the club are yellow and blue. BFC Siófok plays its home matches in the Révész Géza utcai Stadion which has a capacity of 10,500. Budapesti Vasutas Sport Club-Zugló commonly known as BVSC-Zugló is a professional football club based in Zugló, Budapest, Hungary, that competes in the Nemzeti Bajnokság II. The club was founded in 1911. Its football section became closed in 2001, but has now reopened, while other sections that are still operational are table tennis, wrestling, water polo. Magyar Testgyakorlók Köre Budapest Futball Club or shortly MTK is a professional football club based in Józsefváros, Budapest, Hungary. The club currently plays in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I. The club's colours are blue and white. As one of the most successful Hungarian football clubs, MTK has won the Hungarian League 23 times and the Hungarian Cup 12 times. The 1998–99 Nemzeti Bajnokság I, also known as NB I for short, was the 97th season of top-tier football in Hungary. The league is officially named ''Professzionális Nemzeti Bajnokság (PNB)'' for sponsorship reasons. The season began on 24 July 1998 and ended on the weekend 16 June 1999. Újpest FC, Újpest are the defending champions, having won their 20th Hungarian championship at the end of the 1998–99 season. MTK won their 21st national title, finishing 19 points above Ferencváros, and 20 points above defending champions Újpest. MTK were already leading the table before the winter-break by 11 points. By Gameweek 26 they had extended their lead to 14 points. MTK's championship was confirmed on Gameweek 30, after defeating Gázszer 2-0 at Hungária Körút. The 1996–97 Nemzeti Bajnokság I, also known as NB I, was the 95th season of top-tier football in Hungary. The season started on 10 August 1996 and ended on 28 May 1997. Overview It was contested by 18 teams, and MTK Hungária FC won their twentieth championship. MTK won all of their first 15 games, and suffered a single loss throughout the season, against BVSC-Zugló. The team won the championship on matchday 32, after defeating Ecker-Stadler FC 5-3 in an 8-goal classic. MTK eventually finished 9 points ahead of runners-up Újpest. The point tally achieved by champions MTK (85) is the highest ever achieved by any hungarian champion. MTK also won the 1997 Hungarian Cup, defeating BVSC 8-0 on aggregate. MTK's point tally of 85 is the highest ever achieved in a single season in the history of the Hungarian league.
