The 1998–99 Nemzeti Bajnokság I, also known as NB I for short, was the 97th season of top-tier football in Hungary. The league is officially named ''Professzionális Nemzeti Bajnokság (PNB)'' for sponsorship reasons. The season began on 24 July 1998 and ended on the weekend 16 June 1999. Újpest FC, Újpest are the defending champions, having won their 20th Hungarian championship at the end of the 1998–99 season. MTK won their 21st national title, finishing 19 points above Ferencváros, and 20 points above defending champions Újpest. MTK were already leading the table before the winter-break by 11 points. By Gameweek 26 they had extended their lead to 14 points. MTK's championship was confirmed on Gameweek 30, after defeating Gázszer 2-0 at Hungária Körút. Sándor Egervári's men only lost two home games throughout the season, and won 10 consecutive league games between November and April. Nemzeti Bajnokság I
The Nemzeti Bajnokság (, ), also known as NB I or Fizz Liga after its title sponsor, OTP Bank's webshop subsidiary, is a professional association football league in Hungary and the highest level of the Hungarian football league system. Twelve teams compete in the league, playing each other three times, once at home, once away, and the third match is played at the stadium that the last match was not played at. At the end of the season, the top team enters the qualification rounds for the UEFA Champions League, while the runner-up and the third place, together with the winner of the Magyar Kupa enter the UEFA Conference League qualification rounds. The bottom two clubs are relegated to Nemzeti Bajnokság II, the second-level league, to be replaced by the winner and the runner up of the Nemzeti Bajnokság II, NB II. Zalaegerszegi Torna Egylet Football Club (), commonly known as Zalaegerszegi TE, Zalaegerszeg or ZTE, is a Hungary, Hungarian professional association football, football club based in Zalaegerszeg. Zalaegerszeg has won one Hungarian League title in 2001–02 Nemzeti Bajnokság I, 2002 and one Magyar Kupa title in 2023. BFC Siófok
Bodajk FC Siófok, generally shortened to BFC Siófok, is a Hungarian football club based in Siófok, a small town on the shores of Lake Balaton. The club was founded in 1921 as ''Siófok SE''. The word ''Bodajk'' in the club's name stems from a merger with Bodajk FC in 2005. The colours of the club are yellow and blue. BFC Siófok plays its home matches in the Révész Géza utcai Stadion which has a capacity of 10,500. Nyíregyháza Spartacus is a professional football club from Nyíregyháza, Hungary. Formed in 1928, it has had brief stints in the Nemzeti Bajnokság III. Budapesti Vasutas Sport Club-Zugló commonly known as BVSC-Zugló is a professional football club based in Zugló, Budapest, Hungary, that competes in the Nemzeti Bajnokság II.
