National Professional Soccer League (1984–2001)
The National Professional Soccer League was a professional indoor soccer league in the U.S. and Canada. It was originally called the American Indoor Soccer Association. History In November 1983, a Kalamazoo, Michigan–based group called Soccer Leagues Unlimited unveiled a plan for an indoor league composed exclusively of American players. The group's president, Bob Lemieux (later AISA commissioner), announced that Kalamazoo, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Springfield, Illinois, were on board in what was he said was intended to be a sort of farm system, or developmental league, for the well established Major Indoor Soccer League. He added that groups in Indianapolis, Peoria, and Michigan cities, Saginaw and Flint; Kentucky cities, Lexington and Louisville; Ohio cities, Columbus Toledo and Dayton; Erie, PA; and Green Bay, Wisconsin, were all interested in joining the league. Toronto Shooting Stars
Toronto Shooting Stars were an indoor soccer team based in Toronto, Ontario that competed in the defunct NPSL. The team began play in the 1996–1997 season, with home games taking place at Maple Leaf Gardens. However, the ownership of the franchise collapsed just 3 games into its first season, forcing the league to take control of the team's operations for the remainder of the season. Victor Nogueira
Victor Nogueira (born July 17, 1959) is a retired American soccer goalkeeper. Nogueira spent six seasons in the North American Soccer League, but gained his greatest recognition in over twenty seasons in three indoor leagues, the Major Indoor Soccer League, National Professional Soccer League and the second Major Indoor Soccer League. He was also a member of the U.S. futsal team which took second place at the 1992 FIFA Futsal World Championship, and he is the father of FC Kansas City and United States forward Casey Loyd. Jason Dunn (soccer)
Jason Dunn (born October 4, 1971, in Olympia, Washington) is a retired American soccer forward who is currently the head coach of USL League Two club Oly Town FC. He was the 1994 American Professional Soccer League and the 1996-1997 National Professional Soccer League Rookies of the Year. He also earned three caps with the U.S. national team in 1994. High school and college Dunn grew up in Olympia, Washington, where he attended North Thurston High School. During his four seasons at North Thurston, Dunn was a four-time All-state soccer player. As a senior, the team won the Washington State championship. Dunn was selected as an All-American his senior season where he scored 34 goals and added 27 assists. Dunn graduated in 1990. Daryl Doran
Daryl Doran (born March 29, 1963) is a U.S. former indoor soccer player. His 827 games are the most of any player in American professional indoor soccer history. Doran previously coached the St. Louis Ambush (2013), St. Louis Ambush in the Major Arena Soccer League from 2013 to 2015. High school and college Doran grew up in Saint Louis, Missouri, where he attended Christian Brothers College High School from 1977 to 1980. He was a four-year starter with the school's Varsity soccer team, finishing his career with 35 goals and 31 assists. He was named All-State three times and named Parade All-American twice. Bojan "Bo" Vučković ( sr-Cyrl, Бојан Вучковић; born July 17, 1970) is a Serbian footballer, who owned and played for the now defunct Vermont Voltage in the USL Premier Development League. Goran Hunjak (born 13 November 1965 in Yugoslavia) is a retired football player. Club career "Scorin" Goran Hunjak began his professional career in 1983 with for NK Zagreb in the Croatian First Division. In 1988, he moved to the United States and signed with the Wichita Wings in Major Indoor Soccer League. In 1992, the league collapsed and Hunjak moved to the Baltimore Spirit in the National Professional Soccer League. Joe Reiniger
Joe Reiniger (born December 7, 1970, in Collinsville, Illinois) is a professional soccer player and coach. He grew up in Caseyville. Reiniger has played forward for the St. Louis Ambush, Milwaukee Wave, and the St. Louis Steamers. He went to college at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and graduated in 1993. He was selected in the first round of the NPSL amateur draft by the Ambush in 1993, and was named to the 1993-94 NPSL All-Rookie Team. While playing with the Wave, he was the MVP of the 2001 NPSL Championship. His number is 21. He plays forward and is left footed, but right-handed.
