1991–92 New Mexico State Aggies Basketball Team
The 1991–92 New Mexico State Aggies men's basketball team represented New Mexico State University in the 1991–92 college basketball season. This was Neil McCarthy's 7th season as head coach. The Aggies played their home games at Pan American Center and competed in the Big West Conference. They finished the season 25–8, 12–6 in Big West play to earn a third-place finish in the conference regular season standings. They won the Big West tournament to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as No. 12 seed in the West region. In the opening round, New Mexico State upset No. 5 seed DePaul, 81–73. The Aggies followed that success by defeating No. 13 seed Southwestern Louisiana to reach the Sweet Sixteen. Neil McCarthy (basketball)
Neil McCarthy (May 18, 1939 – September 18, 2021) was an American college basketball coach. He was head coach of the Weber State Wildcats men's basketball, Weber State Wildcats team from 1974 to 1985 and at the New Mexico State Aggies men's basketball, New Mexico State Aggies from 1985 to 1997. At Weber State, McCarthy led the Wildcats to four NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, NCAA tournaments, including the school's first NCAA Tournament win since reaching the Sweet 16 in 1972. He remained Weber State's winningest coach until Randy Rahe broke his wins record in 2016. During most of McCarthy's tenure at New Mexico State, the Aggies were the second-best team in what became the Big West Conference, behind UNLV Runnin' Rebels basketball, UNLV. Selland Arena
Selland Arena is a multi-purpose arena built in 1966 that makes up part of a four-venue complex of the Fresno Convention and Entertainment Center in Fresno, California. It is named after former Fresno mayor Arthur L. Selland and has had over 10 million people walk through its doors in its over 50-year history. The arena originally had a 6,582 seating capacity, but a expansion project in 1981 increased the seating to its current capacity of 10,132. Before the 1997-1998 Fresno State basketball season, capacity was increased to 10,220. The 1991–92 UNLV Runnin' Rebels basketball team represented the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in NCAA Division I men's competition in the 1991–92 season. The head coach was Jerry Tarkanian, entering his 19th season. The team played its home games in the Thomas & Mack Center, and was a member of the Big West Conference. Alexander Giannascoli (born February 3, 1993), better known by his stage names Alex G or, formerly, (Sandy) Alex G, is an American musician, producer, and singer-songwriter. He started his career playing in multiple local bands such as the Skin Cells before he decided to pursue his own music career as a soloist. The Donald Bren Events Center, commonly known as the Bren Events Center or simply the Bren, is a 5,608-seat indoor arena on the campus of the University of California, Irvine, in Irvine, California, United States. The 1991–92 UC Irvine Anteaters men's basketball team represented the University of California, Irvine during the 1991–92 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Anteaters were led by first year head coach Rod Baker and played at the Bren Events Center. They were members of the Big West Conference.
