Nemzeti Bajnokság II
The NB II, currently known as the Merkantil Bank Liga for sponsorship reasons, is the second tier of Hungarian football. At the end of the 2004–05 season, the tournament format was changed from one division of 14 teams to two divisions: ''Keleti'' (Eastern) and ''Nyugati'' (Western), each with 16 teams, though now it's just one league table with 16 teams as of the 2024–25 season. The champion and the runner-up will ascend to the first division while the two lowest teams in NB II are relegated to NB III. Format On 2 March 2017, the Hungarian Football Federation announced that the number of the teams in the Nemzeti Bajnokság II will not be reduced to 12. From 2024 onwards, the league was reduced to 16 teams from 20 and 18 teams in 2022–2024, respectively. History The second league was founded in 1901, having 8 teams. Statistics of Hungarian National Championship I, Nemzeti Bajnokság I in the 1991–92 season. Overview It was contested by 16 teams, and Ferencvárosi TC won their 24th national championship, and first under headcoach and player-legend Tibor Nyilasi. Ferencváros were in a 3-way title-race with defending champions Honvéd and Vác for much of the season. By the time of the winterbreak Vác were leading the table 2 points above Honvéd and 3 points above FTC. On the first matchday of the spring part of the season, Ferencváros defeated Vác 3-1, with Péter Deszatnik scoring a brace within 3 minutes. Vác would also go on to lose their following leaguegame against Siófok, allowing Ferencváros to take a massive leap towards the trophy. Despite Vác winning all but one of their remaining games from Round 18 onwards, their superb winning streak was not enough to surpass FTC's point-tally, who won 13 of their last 15 fixtures. Kazincbarcikai SC is a Football in Hungary, Hungarian association football, football club based in Kazincbarcika, Hungary. The team set to play in Nemzeti Bajnokság I from 2025–26, the top tier of Hungarian football after promotion from Nemzeti Bajnokság II in 2024–25. Budafoki Munkás Testedző Egyesület is a Hungarian football club from the town of Budafok, Budapest, Hungary. The club currently plays in the Nemzeti Bajnokság II. History The club was founded in 1912 as Világosság Football Club. At that time, Budafok was not part of Budapest; it joined the capital city only in 1950, along with other towns such as Újpest and Kispest.
