Nemzeti Bajnokság II
The NB II, currently known as the Merkantil Bank Liga for sponsorship reasons, is the second tier of Hungarian football. At the end of the 2004–05 season, the tournament format was changed from one division of 14 teams to two divisions: ''Keleti'' (Eastern) and ''Nyugati'' (Western), each with 16 teams, though now it's just one league table with 16 teams as of the 2024–25 season. The champion and the runner-up will ascend to the first division while the two lowest teams in NB II are relegated to NB III. Format On 2 March 2017, the Hungarian Football Federation announced that the number of the teams in the Nemzeti Bajnokság II will not be reduced to 12. From 2024 onwards, the league was reduced to 16 teams from 20 and 18 teams in 2022–2024, respectively. History The second league was founded in 1901, having 8 teams. Statistics of Nemzeti Bajnokság I in the 1982–83 season. Overview It was contested by 16 teams, and Győri ETO FC won the championship for the third time in their history, successfully defending their championship from the previous season under coach József Verebes. Győr went undefeated at home throughout the entire campaign, and were top of the table for 23 out of the 30 matchweeks. The Rába-Coast team contested a close title-race with Csepel FC for the first half of the season. The club from the 23rd district of Budapest occupied the top spot from matchday 14 until matchday 17. After drawing 0-0 against Tatabánya, the club's dreams of a 5th national title fell apart, as they lost 5 of their 9 subsequent league games. Volán FC
Volán FC was a Hungarian football team from the Rákospalota neighborhood of Budapest, named after one of the main bus companies in the country Borsod Volán. It played six seasons in the first division of the Hungarian League, the ''Nemzeti Bajnokság I.'', mostly during the 1980s, when it was relegated four times and never finished higher than 11th place as in the first season. After the last relegation in 1991, the club folded. The ''de facto'' successor to Volán is Rákospalotai EAC (REAC), which was formed from some elements of the former team. BFC Siófok
Bodajk FC Siófok, generally shortened to BFC Siófok, is a Hungarian football club based in Siófok, a small town on the shores of Lake Balaton. The club was founded in 1921 as ''Siófok SE''. The word ''Bodajk'' in the club's name stems from a merger with Bodajk FC in 2005. The colours of the club are yellow and blue. BFC Siófok plays its home matches in the Révész Géza utcai Stadion which has a capacity of 10,500. In the Hungarian cup final of 1984, BFC Siófok defeated Rába Vasas ETO Gyõr, 2–1 and thus achieved its only major success.
