Czechoslovak First League
The Czechoslovak First League (, ) was the premier football (soccer), football league in the Czechoslovakia from 1925 to 1993, with the exception of World War II. Czechoslovakia was occupied by German forces who formed Gauliga Sudetenland and Gauliga Böhmen und Mähren leagues on occupied territories. Until the 1934-35 season, no teams from Slovakia participated in the league. Czechs were allowed to run their own league in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, while Slovaks were granted their own independent Slovak State and created their own league. After the World War II the league was recreated. Description The league was dominated by clubs from Prague with Sparta Prague winning 19 titles, Dukla Prague 11 and Slavia Prague 9. The attendance record for the league was set on 4 September 1965, when 50,105 spectators attended a match between rivals Sparta and Slavia in Prague. FC Zbrojovka Brno
FC Zbrojovka Brno is a professional football club based in the city of Brno, South Moravian Region, Czech Republic and named after Zbrojovka Brno, a firearms manufacturer. Founded in 1913 as SK Židenice, the club later became known as Zbrojovka Brno. Brno won the Czechoslovak First League in the 1977–78 season and finished as runners-up in 1979–80. Marián Masný
Marián Masný (born 13 August 1950 in Rybany) is a Slovak former football player. He played for Czechoslovakia, for which he played 75 matches and scored 18 goals. His brother Vojtech was also football player. He was a participant at the 1976 UEFA European Championship, where Czechoslovakia won the gold medal, and at the 1980 UEFA European Championship where they came third and at the has a sticker in the album of the 1982 FIFA World Cup. Masný started out at amateur football clubs Jednota Trenčin and then Dukla Banska Bystrica before joining professional team played Slovan Bratislava. He played most of his career for Slovan Bratislava from 1968 to 1989 and also played briefly for Petržalka before he retired in 1990. Václav Daněk
Václav Daněk (born 22 December 1960) is a Czech former professional footballer who played as a forward. He played 22 matches for Czechoslovakia and scored nine goals. At club level in total, Daněk scored 197 league goals in 402 games. Club career Daněk scored the first goal on his debut for Baník Ostrava in a 6–0 victory against Orduspor at the 1979–80 UEFA Cup. This witnessed the golden era in the club's history, contributing to two Czechoslovak First League championships. International career After the 1990 FIFA World Cup, Jozef Vengloš was replaced by Milan Máčala, who gave Daněk his full confidence, making him the team's new standard bearer and first pick-up choice for the attack. Stanislav Griga
Stanislav Griga (born 4 November 1961) is a Slovak football manager and a former player. He played 34 matches for Czechoslovakia and scored eight goals. Playing career As a player of AC Sparta Prague, Griga played at the 1983 European Super Cup against Real Madrid and was praised by then-coach Alfredo Di Stefano for his performance. He participated at the 1990 FIFA World Cup, and had a headed goal controversially disallowed for offside in a first-round game against Italy at Stadio Olimpico. Coaching career Griga was appointed coach of Sparta Prague in October 2005. He stayed with the club until August 2006, finishing with a record of twelve wins, seven draws, and eight losses in his 27 games in charge. MFK Vítkovice
MFK Vítkovice is a football club from Vítkovice, Ostrava, Czech Republic. It was founded in 1919 as FC Vítkovice, announced bankruptcy in 2011 and transformed to MFK Vítkovice. The club won the Czechoslovak First League in the 1985–86 season. The club has always been somewhat overshadowed by the town's main team FC Baník Ostrava. The teams have a mutual rivalry, as Baník is based in the Silesian part of the city, while Vítkovice are located in the Moravian part of Ostrava. MFK Vítkovice however still maintain a small local fan base. They also hold a rivalry with regional side FK Fotbal Třinec from Třinec. FK Hvězda Cheb
FK Hvězda Cheb is a Czech football club, playing in the town of Cheb. The club was founded in 1951 and refounded in 2001 after a bankruptcy in 1996. The club played for 13 consecutive seasons in the Czechoslovak First League between 1979 and 1992, and played three seasons in the Czech First League, finishing fourth in the 1993–94 season. The club played in the third-tier Bohemian Football League between 2006 and 2008. After the 2007–08 season the club announced it would not take part in the following season's competition due to financial difficulties. It currently plays in the Czech Fourth Division. The club also had appearances in Europe playing the Mitropa Cup in 1980 and in Intertoto Cup 1981, in which it won its group. FC Spartak Trnava () is a professional Football club (association football), football club based in Trnava, Slovakia. FC Nitra is a Slovak association football club, playing in the town of Nitra. Established in 1909, FC Nitra is one of the oldest football clubs in Slovakia.
