1981–82 Colorado Rockies Season
The 1981–82 Colorado Rockies season was the sixth and final season for the Rockies in Colorado. The franchise would relocate to New Jersey for the 1982–83 season and be renamed the New Jersey Devils. In 1995 the Devils would win the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history. The same year, NHL hockey would return to Colorado with the Quebec Nordiques relocating there to become the Avalanche, for the 1995–96 season. They went on to become Stanley Cup champions in their first season in Denver. 1994–95 NHL Season
The 1994–95 NHL season was the 78th regular season of the National Hockey League. The season start was delayed due to a lockout of players imposed by the NHL franchise owners. After a new labour agreement was reached between the owners and the National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA), a 48-game season started on January 20. The season ended when the New Jersey Devils swept the heavily favored Detroit Red Wings for their first Stanley Cup win. It was also their first appearance in the finals overall. John Johannson
John Joseph Johannson (born October 18, 1961) is a retired American ice hockey center. He played for the United States at the 1981 World Junior Championships. Johannson was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 10th round, 192nd overall in the 1981 NHL entry draft. Following his senior year at the University of Wisconsin, his second consecutive 20 goal season, Johannson played 5 games with the New Jersey Devils in the NHL. The following season Johannson played for Wiener EV in Austria's second tier Nationalliga scoring 84 points in 23 games. Tim Army
Tim Army (born April 26, 1963) is an American former professional ice hockey player. He currently serves as an assistant coach for the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League. Army was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 9th round (171st overall) of the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. Army played four seasons at Providence College with the Providence Friars, where during the 1984–85 season he was rewarded for his outstanding play when he was named to the NCAA (East) First All-American Team and was selected as a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. He was inducted into the Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame in 2020. Coaching career Army played just two professional seasons before retiring due to injury. Jeff Larmer
Jeffrey Larmer (born November 10, 1962) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played 158 games in the National Hockey League. He played with the Colorado Rockies, New Jersey Devils and the Chicago Black Hawks. After his hockey career, he started teaching at Connaught Public School, and then later, he switched to Mountain View Elementary School in Collingwood Ontario before retiring in 2022. Larmer was born in Peterborough, Ontario. As a youth, he played in the 1975 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from Peterborough. Larmer holds the record for most points in a Memorial Cup, having scored 16 points in the 1982 Memorial Cup. The record was tied by Guy Rouleau in 1986. Bruce Driver
Bruce Douglas Driver (born April 29, 1962) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played 15 seasons in the National Hockey League from 1983–84 until 1997–98. Early life When he was 12, Driver played in the 1975 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the MTHL's Shopsy's, a youth team affiliated with the Toronto Marlies. When he was 13, Driver was cut from his bantam team because evaluators thought he was too small. Undeterred, he continued to improve his game, and was later drafted by the Oshawa Generals, a major junior team in the Ontario Hockey League, but decided to play college hockey at the University of Wisconsin instead. Ulrich Hiemer (born 21 September 1962) is a German former professional ice hockey player who was among the first Germans to play in the NHL. Richard Chernomaz (born September 1, 1963) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and executive as well as former ice hockey right winger. He was most recently the head coach of the VIU Mariners Hockey team in the BCIHL. He played 51 National Hockey League (NHL) games for the Colorado Rockies, New Jersey Devils and Calgary Flames. Chernomaz' career was spent primarily in the minor leagues where he was a two-time International Hockey League (IHL) all-star, and in 1993–94, won the Les Cunningham Award as the most valuable player of the American Hockey League (AHL). Chernomaz participated in the 1995 World Championship in Austria where he was a member of Team Canada's bronze medal-winning squad. Joe Cirella
Joseph Cirella (born May 9, 1963) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played in 828 games in the National Hockey League (NHL). He has additionally served as assistant coach and assistant general manager of the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League. Cirella was born in Hamilton, Ontario, but grew up in Stoney Creek, Ontario. Playing career Cirella joined the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) at the age of 17 and served as team captain as the Generals won the J. Stanley Cup
The Stanley Cup () is the championship trophy awarded annually to the National Hockey League (NHL) playoff champion. It is the oldest existing trophy to be awarded to a professional sports franchise in North America, and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) considers it to be one of the "most important championships available to the sport".
