1981–1982 (EP)
''1981–1982'' (also often known by the catalog numbers "Factus 8" and "1981-Factus 8-1982") is a five-track EP released by the English rock band New Order in November 1982 through Factory Records. It consists entirely of previously released singles, being the tracks "Procession", "Everything's Gone Green", and "Temptation", as well as two of their B-sides, "Mesh" and "Hurt". ''1981–1982'' would be New Order's last release to contain production from Martin Hannett, who would stop working with the band during recording sessions for "Everything's Gone Green" due to creative disputes. All tracks from ''1981–1982'' would later be featured on the 2008 Collector's Edition of New Order's first studio album, ''Movement'' (1981). The EP would be officially reissued during Black Friday 2014 as part of a Record Store Day event. Everything's Gone Green
"Everything's Gone Green" is the third single by the English rock band New Order, released in December 1981. As usual per New Order and Joy Division's releases, the recording date and location of the music is not disclosed on the original sleeve. The single was originally released in Belgium on Factory Benelux and bears the catalogue number FBN8. The single was later released in New Zealand in 1982 and was made available in the UK through import copies. The artwork was designed by Peter Saville with computer graphics on the cover designed by Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert. Recording and music The song had already been released in an edited form, as a double A side with the song "Procession" in September 1981. Two original songs, "Cries and Whispers" and "Mesh," are included as B-sides. New Order are an English Rock music, rock band formed in Salford in 1980 by vocalist and guitarist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook, and drummer Stephen Morris (musician), Stephen Morris. Ceremony (New Order Song)
"Ceremony" is a song written by Joy Division, and first released as New Order's debut single in 1981. The track and its B-side, "In a Lonely Place", were recorded as Joy Division prior to the death of their lead singer Ian Curtis. Both were re-recorded and carried over to Joy Division's re-formation as New Order. New Order released the song as a single twice, firstly in March 1981 and secondly in September 1981 featuring new member Gillian Gilbert, with the latter recording later appearing on the 1987 compilation album '' Substance''. Stephen Morris (musician)
Stephen Paul David Morris (born 28 October 1957) is an English drummer who has worked with the rock band New Order and, previously, Joy Division. He also wrote and performed in The Other Two, a band consisting of Morris and his girlfriend and later wife, Gillian Gilbert. Morris also participated in the New Order spin-off band Bad Lieutenant. He and frontman Bernard Sumner are the only two continuous members of New Order, and appeared on every one of the band’s albums. Career Stephen Paul David Morris was born on 28 October 1957, in Macclesfield, Cheshire. His father was a travelling salesman who also put on dances. His uncle was a musician. Gillian Gilbert
Gillian Lesley Gilbert (born 27 January 1961) is an English musician. She is the keyboardist and guitarist of the band New Order. Early life Gilbert's family moved from her birthplace, Manchester, to the nearby market town of Macclesfield when she was young. She disliked living in Cheshire as a teenager and had wanted to live in Manchester. In the late 1970s, seeing Siouxsie and the Banshees play live on UK television was a life changing experience for her. "Me dad always says to us, 'You changed as soon as you saw Siouxsie and the Banshees on television'... And I really liked Gaye Advert out of the Adverts, who played bass, and I thought, 'Oh, there's nobody playin' guitar' - you know, women in bands." Her uncle taught her how to play guitar. Gilbert was then in a punk band with three girls, the Inadequates, who rehearsed at premises next to Joy Division. Twelve-inch Single
The twelve-inch single (often written as 12-inch or 12) is a type of vinyl (polyvinyl chloride or PVC) gramophone record that has wider groove spacing and shorter playing time with a "single" or a few related sound tracks on each surface, compared to LPs (long play) which have several songs on each side. It is named for its diameter that was intended for LPs. This technical adaptation allows for louder levels to be cut on the disc by the mastering engineer, which in turn gives a wider dynamic range, and thus better sound quality. This record type, which is claimed to have been accidentally discovered by Tom Moulton, is commonly used in disco and dance music genres, where DJs use them to play in clubs. A remaster is a change in the sound or image quality of previously created forms of media, whether audiophonic, cinematic, or videographic. The resulting product is said to be remastered. The terms digital remastering and digitally remastered are also used. In a wider sense, remastering a product may involve other, typically smaller inclusions or changes to the content itself.
