In 1965, the Besta-deild karla, Icelandic football tournament was held for the 54th time. Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur, KR won its 19th title after defeating Íþróttabandalag Akraness, ÍA 2–1 in an extra game for the championship after both teams where tied with 13 points at the end of the season. The Besta deild karla () is a professional association football league in Iceland and the highest level of the Icelandic football league system. The competition was founded in 1912 as the Icelandic Championship. Because of the harsh winters in Iceland, it is generally played in the spring and summer (April to September). It is governed by the Football Association of Iceland (KSÍ) and has 12 teams. By the end of the 2022–23 season, UEFA ranked the league No. 48 in Europe. From 27 April 2009 to 2022, the league had an active agreement on the league's name rights with Ölgerðin, the Icelandic franchisee for Pepsi. From the 2019 season to the end of the 2021 season, the league was popularly referred to as Pepsi Max deildin (The Pepsi Max League). ''Knattspyrnufélagið Fram'' (, ) is a professional Icelandic sports club, best known for its football and handball teams. It was founded on 1 May 1908 in Reykjavík. It was based at Safamýri, in the Háaleiti og Bústaðir district near Reykjavík city centre before slowly moving operations to the newly established Grafarholt district. The football team currently plays in the top division, the Besta deild karla after being promoted in the 2021 season. Eyleifur Hafsteinsson (born 31 May 1947) is an Icelandic former footballer who played as a forward. He won the Icelandic championship in 1968, 1970 and 1974 and the Icelandic Cup in 1966. He was part of the Iceland national team between 1964 and 1972, playing 26 matches and scoring 4 goals. Career After coming up through the junior teams of Íþróttabandalag Akraness (ÍA), he debuted with the senior team in 1964. He became an instant hit, becoming the youngest player ever to score in the Icelandic top-tier league when he did so three days before his 17th birthday. He finished the 1964 season as the league's top goal scorer with 10 goals. The following year he spent three months in Glasgow, Scotland, where he trained with the Glasgow Rangers. The 1966–67 European Cup was the 12th season of the European Cup, UEFA's premier club football tournament. The competition was won by Celtic for the first time, when they beat Inter Milan 2–1 in the final at the Estádio Nacional, Lisbon, on 25 May 1967, making them the first British team, as well as the only Scottish team (as of 2025) to win the trophy. Celtic also became just the second team to win the tournament on their debut appearance after Inter Milan in 1963–64 edition. Valur Men's Football
The Valur men's football team, commonly known as Valur (, ), is the men's football department of the Knattspyrnufélagið Valur multi-sport club. The club is based in Reykjavík, Iceland, and currently plays in the Besta deild karla, the top league of men's football in Iceland. The team plays its home games at Hlíðarendi in Reykjavík.
