Nemzeti Bajnokság II
The NB II, currently known as the Merkantil Bank Liga for sponsorship reasons, is the second tier of Hungarian football. At the end of the 2004–05 season, the tournament format was changed from one division of 14 teams to two divisions: ''Keleti'' (Eastern) and ''Nyugati'' (Western), each with 16 teams, though now it's just one league table with 16 teams as of the 2024–25 season. The champion and the runner-up will ascend to the first division while the two lowest teams in NB II are relegated to NB III. Format On 2 March 2017, the Hungarian Football Federation announced that the number of the teams in the Nemzeti Bajnokság II will not be reduced to 12. From 2024 onwards, the league was reduced to 16 teams from 20 and 18 teams in 2022–2024, respectively. History The second league was founded in 1901, having 8 teams. Dunaújváros FC (1952)
Dunaújváros FC (previously known as ''Dunaferr SE'') was a Hungarian football team from Dunaújváros. Though they won the Hungarian NB I in 1999–2000, recently they played in the second league, until the team withdrew in March 2009, ceasing its operations. History Domestic The team was founded in 1952 and one year later they were promoted to the Hungarian first division under the name ''Sztálinvárosi Vasmű Építők''. In 1954 they were relegated to the second division and from then on they bounced back and forth between the two. From 1961 the team was known as ''Dunaújvárosi Kohász SE''. Whilst holding this name their best finish was in 1978, 7th in the NB I. In 1998 they entered the NB I. under the name ''Dunaferr SE'' and won their first and only Hungarian championship in 2000. Tatabányai Sport Club is a Hungarian football club based in Tatabánya, Komárom-Esztergom, Hungary. The team set to play in Nemzeti Bajnokság II from 2024–25, the second tier of Hungarian football after promotion from Nemzeti Bajnokság III in 2023–24. They play their home games at Stadion Gyula Grosics. History The club was founded on February 6, 1910, by Ferenc Frei, a mining engineer. At this time several Hungarian towns outside of Budapest had formed football teams – Debrecen, Miskolc, Győr. The First World War weakened the team, but in the 1920s the club was still without a doubt the most popular in Tatabánya. Professionalism was introduced into the Hungarian League, but the team couldn't afford this, and stuck with amateur players. After the end of the Second World War in 1947 the team reached the first division.
