The 1940–41 Allsvenskan was the seventh season of the top division of Swedish handball. Nine teams competed in the league. Majornas IK won the league, but the title of Swedish Champions was awarded to the winner of Svenska mästerskapet. Handbollsligan
Handbollsligan ''(literally, "The Handball league")'' is the highest league in the league system of Swedish handball, and comprises the top 14 Swedish handball teams. The first season began in 1931–32. The season ends with a playoff. Structure The season starts in September with a regular season comprising 14 teams meeting each other twice. A total of 26 rounds. The eight best teams after the regular season qualifies for the play-off. The 14th team is relegated, and the 11th, 12th and 13th team plays matches against the second, third and fourth from Allsvenskan to qualify for next season's Handbollsligan. The season ends with the finals in the beginning of May and the winning team qualifies directly to EHF European League and the losing team qualifies for the EHF European Cup. IFK Kristianstad
Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna Kristianstad (), or IFK Kristianstad, is a Swedish professional handball club based in Kristianstad. They play in Handbollsligan, the top level of Swedish men's handball. The club was founded in 1899 as a multi-sport club. The handball team made its debut in 1925 and has been the only section of the club since 2000. The club plays its home matches at Kristianstad Arena. Kristianstad have won nine List of Swedish men's handball champions, Swedish Championship (SM) gold medals. They won their first gold in 1941. From 1946 to 1957 they were a consistent top team, finishing in the top four every year and winning three golds. They were again a contender in the 1970s, losing the final in 1975. Djurgårdens IF Handboll
Djurgårdens IF Handbollsförening (commonly known as Djurgården or informally Djurgår'n ; abbreviated DIF () is the handball section of Djurgårdens IF. History Djurgårdens IF started its handball section in the 1934–35 season. In the 1938, they were in List of Swedish men's handball champions, Swedish championship final against Västerås IK Handboll, Västerås IK. The team played in top-tier Elitserien (men's handball), Allsvenskan between 1939 and 1941. The team folded once and restarted in 1990. In 2002, Djurgården merged with Elitserien (men's handball), Elitserien team BK Söder and the new team competed in Elitserien as Djurgårdens IF. Stockholms-Flottans IF
Stockholms-Flottans IF were a handball club from Stockholm. They played in the first Swedish championship final in 1932, but lost to Flottans IF Karlskrona. They reached the final again in 1933, but were beaten by Redbergslid. In 1934–35, they were founding members of Allsvenskan. In the same year they reached the Swedish championship final again, but were defeated by Majorna Majorna () is a residential area in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is a part of the borough Majorna-Linné. SoIK Hellas is a sports club in Stockholm, Sweden, established on 14 May 1899 as Pastorns gossar ("The Preacher's Guys") by Katarina Parish Confirmation (Lutheran Church), confirmation priest Ernst Klefbeck, before changing name to SoIK Hellas in 1912, also on the initiative of Ernst Klefbeck. IFK Karlskrona
IFK Karlskrona are a Swedish handball club based in Karlskrona. The club was founded in 1921. They won Allsvenskan in 1944–1945. They reached the final of the Swedish championship, at the time played as a straight knockout tournament, in 1940, 1944 and 1945, but were beaten each time by Majorna. They won Allsvenskan again in 1948–49, but were eliminated in the first round of the Swedish championship by Näsby IF. In 1952, the Swedish championship tournament was discontinued and the Swedish champions title was awarded to the winners of Allsvenskan. The club finished second in Allsvenskan in 1955–56; their fourth Swedish championship silver. They were relegated from Allsvenkan in 1961 and did not return until 1981. Redbergslids IK
Redbergslids IK (RIK), is a professional handball team from Gothenburg, Sweden founded in 1916. Redbergslid is the most successful club in Sweden, having won 20 Swedish Championship titles. Home games are played in Prioritet Serneke Arena. Redbergslid is the only Scandinavian club to win the EHF Champions League (1959). They also reached the final of the EHF Cup Winner's Cup in 2003. Noted players of the club include Peter Gentzel, Stefan Lövgren, Ljubomir Vranjes, Magnus Wislander and Andreas Palicka. In the 2022/2023 season Redbergslid were relegated from the Handbollsligan, top Swedish league, after spending 40 years straight (82 in total) in the top league. Ystads IF is a professional handball club from Ystad, Sweden. They play in Handbollsligan. They won the Swedish Championship in 1976, 1992, 2022 and 2025. Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it. 1940–41 Svenska Mästerskapet (men's Handball)
The 1940–41 Svenska mästerskapet was the 10th season of Svenska mästerskapet, a tournament held to determine the Swedish Champions of men's handball. Teams qualified by winning their respective District Championships. 16 teams competed in the tournament. Majornas IK were the defending champions, but failed to win the District Championship of Gothenburg and did not qualify. IFK Kristianstad won the title, defeating IFK Uppsala in the final. The final was played on 6 April in Södra kaserns gymnastiksal in Kristianstad, and was watched by 1,299 spectators.
