Djurgårdens IF Handboll
Djurgårdens IF Handbollsförening (commonly known as Djurgården or informally Djurgår'n ; abbreviated DIF () is the handball section of Djurgårdens IF. History Djurgårdens IF started its handball section in the 1934–35 season. In the 1938, they were in List of Swedish men's handball champions, Swedish championship final against Västerås IK Handboll, Västerås IK. The team played in top-tier Elitserien (men's handball), Allsvenskan between 1939 and 1941. The team folded once and restarted in 1990. In 2002, Djurgården merged with Elitserien (men's handball), Elitserien team BK Söder and the new team competed in Elitserien as Djurgårdens IF. In 2013, the senior team of Djurgårdens IF folded again. A new team started and plays in Division 5. Djurgården plays in Division 1 Norra 2017–18 season. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it. List Of Swedish Men's Handball Champions
The Swedish men's handball champions ( Swedish: ''Svenska mästare i handboll för herrar'') have been determined by three different competitions. From 1931–32 until 1951–52, the title was decided by a straight knockout tournament known as ''Svenska mästerskapet'' ("the Swedish Championship"). After 1934–35, it was played parallel to the highest league, Allsvenskan. The tournament was contested by the winners of the ''Distriktsmästerskap'' (" Provincial Championships") until 1945–46. After that it was contested by all teams from the top division, all Provincial Champions and invited teams from lower leagues. From 1952–53 until 1966–67, the title of Swedish Champions was awarded to the winners of Allsvenskan. Västerås IK Handboll
Västerås IK Handboll was the handball section of Västerås IK, a Swedish sport club based in Västerås. The club made their first appearance in Svenska mästerskapet (SM), a tournament held to determine the Swedish champions, in 1932–33. They were eliminated by Strängnäs in the first round. In 1935–36 they reached the quarterfinals, where they were defeated by SoIK Hellas. In the following season they reached the quarterfinals again, this time losing against Redbergslids IK. In 1937–38, Västerås IK made history by becoming the first team playing outside the top division (Allsvenskan) to win SM. Handbollsligan ''(literally, "The Handball league")'' is the highest league in the league system of Swedish handball, and comprises the top 14 Swedish handball teams. The first season began in 1931–32. The season ends with a playoff. Structure The season starts in September with a regular season comprising 14 teams meeting each other twice. A total of 26 rounds. The eight best teams after the regular season qualifies for the play-off. The 14th team is relegated, and the 11th, 12th and 13th team plays matches against the second, third and fourth from Allsvenskan to qualify for next season's Handbollsligan.
