Six Feet Under is an American death metal band from Tampa, Florida, formed in 1993. The band is currently composed of founding vocalist Chris Barnes, bassist Jeff Hughell, drummer Marco Pitruzzella, and guitarists Ray Suhy and Jack Owen. It was originally a side project formed by Barnes with guitarist Allen West of Obituary, but became a full-time commitment after Barnes was dismissed from Cannibal Corpse in 1995. Six Feet Under has released 14 albums, and is listed by Nielsen Soundscan as the fourth-best-selling death metal act in the U.S. History Formation, ''Haunted'', and ''Warpath'' (1993–1997) After Barnes and West joined forces, they recruited Terry Butler, who knew West from his involvement with Massacre, and Greg Gall, Terry Butler's brother-in-law. Chris Barnes (musician)
Chris Barnes (born December 29, 1967) is an American death metal vocalist, lyricist and producer who currently serves as the frontman of Six Feet Under. Artistically, he is noted for his low guttural vocals and explicitly violent lyrics. Barnes was the co-founder and original lead vocalist and lyricist of Cannibal Corpse, staying with the band from 1988 to 1995. He later founded the Florida death metal band Six Feet Under, for whom he also provided lead vocals. In addition, he has also appeared on Torture Killer's second album ''Swarm!'' Barnes designed the original Cannibal Corpse logo, the Six Feet Under logo and the artwork for the band's 1997 album '' Warpath''. Steve Swanson (musician)
Steve Swanson is an American musician, best known as the former lead guitarist for the death metal band Six Feet Under. He took over guitar duties from Allen West (of Obituary), who left the band in late 1997. Before Swanson joined Six Feet Under, he was in Massacre, another Florida death metal band He has two children. In early December 2008, Swanson's house was broken into, and a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier, six guitars, a Line 6 guitar amp, and a Hewlett Packard laptop were stolen. Terry Butler
Terry Butler is an American bassist who currently performs with the death metal bands Obituary (band), Obituary and Inhuman Condition. He was also a member of Six Feet Under (band), Six Feet Under, Massacre (metal band), Massacre and Death (metal band), Death. He is married with three children, and is brother-in-law of former Six Feet Under bandmate Greg Gall. On May 7, 2019, Butler's then 27-year-old daughter, Jona Wright, died in a single-vehicle car accident after her car came off the road and was overturned multiple times, also leaving Butler's two grandsons, ages 6 and 10 at the time, who were also in the vehicle, with minor injuries.
