Şerafettin Can Atalay

	Şerafettin Can Atalay Şerafettin Can Atalay is a Turkish lawyer, activist, and politician. He served as a lawyer in many social cases in Turkey, such as the Soma mine disaster, Ermenek mine accident, 2016 Adana student dormitory fire, Çorlu train derailment, and freedom of thought cases of journalists and writers. He served as the lawyer of , which was established against the attempt to build a shopping mall in Taksim's Gezi Park. In 2022 he was convicted to 18 years in prison during the Gezi Park lawsuit. During the 2023 Turkish parliamentary elections he was elected as a member of parliament for the Hatay province for the Workers' Party of Turkey. He is currently serving his sentence in the Marmara Prison. Early life and education He was born 1976 in Istanbul. He is the only son of a banker mother and accountant father. 	Hatay (electoral District) Hatay is an electoral district of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. It elects ten members of parliament (deputies) to represent the Hatay Province, province of the same name for a four-year term by the D'Hondt method, a party-list proportional representation system. picture info	2023 Turkish Parliamentary Elections Parliamentary elections were held in Turkey on 14 May 2023, alongside presidential elections, to elect all 600 members of the Grand National Assembly. The incoming members formed the 28th Parliament of Turkey. The elections had originally been scheduled to take place on June 18, but the government moved them forward by a month to avoid coinciding with the university exams, the Hajj pilgrimage and the start of the summer holidays. Prior to the election, the electoral threshold for a party to enter parliament was lowered from 10% to 7% by the ruling party. The elections were contested by a total of 24 political parties.
